Foul Ball: Liriano Throws a No-Hitter

Chicago 0, Minnesota 1: Twins pitcher Francisco Liriano threw the first no-hitter of the season last night and the first Twins no-hitter since Eric Milton threw one in 1999. Now some facts on this no-hitter by Liriano. Here's the video of the final out.

- Liriano's ERA entering the game was 9.13 the second highest by a pitcher to throw a no-hitter with at least three starts already in the season.

- Liriano was only the 12th pitcher to throw a no-hitter without striking out more than two batters. At the same time Liriano walked  six batters. Probably the weakest no-hitter of all-time, right next to AJ Burnett's nine walk no-hitter.

- Yes the Giants traded Liriano to the Twins in one of the worst trades of all-time. Joe Nathan was also a part of that deal.

New York 6, San Francisco 7, 10 Innings: Entering the Mets series, the Giants scored a grand total of four runs in four games at Washington. So of course they would score seven runs against the Mets. This game was truly bizarre and could only have been played between the Mets and Giants. Both teams traded leads and both teams tied the game. Then in the tenth inning, Aubrey Huff broke out of a 0-for-20 drought with a solo home run. Brian Wilson would shut down the Mets in the bottom of the tenth giving the Giants the victory. And yes, Pat Burrell is looking at you.

Tampa Bay 3, Toronto 2: BJ Upton hit a two-run home run to give the Rays the walk-off victory. Ben Zobrist singled to start the inning off of Jon Rauch and then Upton drilled an 0-1 pitch to the left-field bleachers. The Blue Jays have no one but themselves to blame for this loss as they left seven men on base.

Joe Maddon Quote: From the AP: “That was pretty cool,” Rays manager Joe Maddon said. “That ball was properly struck right there.” I can't be the only person who wants to slug Maddon in the face.

Boston 7, Anaheim 3: The Red Sox numbers against the Angels: 6-0 this year and 15-1 in the past sixteen games. Yes the Red Sox own the Angels. Where's Dave Henderson to finish of the Angels of Orange County in California?

Kansas City 6, Baltimore 5, 10 Innings: This game saw three-run innings by both the Orioles and Royals and a walkoff sac fly by Jeff Francoeur. Yes, Jeff Francoeur. Could have been worse though, the Orioles could have lost on a Aubrey Huff home run. Okay, maybe giving up a game-winning home run to Huff isn't that bad.

Oakland 1, Cleveland 4: Fausto Carmona and Tyson Ross were involved in pitcher duels only giving up a run each. The game would stayed tied until the ninth inning when Brian Fuentes happened. Fuentes gave up the game-winning hit to Orlando Cabrera then added to the A's misery by giving up two more runs in the ninth. Needless the say the listless Oakland offense didn't even put up a fight in the bottom of the ninth.

San Diego 6, Pittsburgh 5: Want to know when you're a bad pitcher? When you give up home runs to Matt Latos and Eric Patterson. In Petco Park out of all places a notorious pitcher's park. Well that happened last night to Pittsburgh pitcher Jeff Karstens. Might be time for Mr. Karstens to think about a new profession because pitching might not be his thing.

Detroit 4, New York 2: The Tigers snapped their seven-game losing streak with help from Grady Sizemore's bastard brother Scott Sizemore. Sizemore went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Austin Jackson also drove in a run. Fatso Brad Penny picked up the victory for the Tigers.
