Saturday Open Thread

I don't know why, but the Saturday event during the NBA All-Star weekend still fires me up. I have no idea why. We've seen every dunk imaginable at this point. We've all see the 3-point contest a million times that it really doesn't mean that much anymore, but still I'm fired up to watch those events. So use this thread to talk about the Slam Dunk contest, NBA Saturday All-Star weekend, college basketball, or whatever sporting event that interests you.

  1. St. John's is a tough team at MSG.

  2. I wake up at 7:30 AM, watch Chelsea lose in penalties to Everton in the FA Cup, take a nap, oversleep, wake up an hour and a half after I intended to, only to find Villanova losing to DePaul?!?!?!?!?

    /FML

  3. Wow. I just saw a picture of Bartolo Colon at Spring Training. He's always been big, but he's really let himself go.

  4. It looks like Villanova have finally found a way to get baskets from Corey Fisher, whereas DePaul is yet to get help for Melvin.

  5. CBS using a fancy new studio for their basketball coverage.

  6. If this stretch of struggling against Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall, and DePaul proves something, it's that Villanova really needs a healthy Corey Stokes to be successful.

  7. COREY FISHER! GAME TYING 3 WITH 6 SECONDS LEFT! DEPAUL CAN'T GET A WINNER!

Villanova are going to overtime! Against DePaul?

  8. If all else fails for Villanova, I have faith Oliver Purnell will single handedly find a way to lose this game for DePaul

  9. Corey Fisher is going to beat DePaul by himself if that is what it takes. Geez he has been great this game.

Why is Jay Wright taking him out now

  10. And St. John's just beat Pitt on a last minute lay-up.

  11. Villanova looks like they will escape Chicago with the win.

Slightly embarrassing that they needed overtime to beat the worst team in the Big East, but a win is a win at this point for Villanova.

  12. Game over. Villanova win 77-75 in overtime.

  14. I'm watching this NASCAR race Danica Patrick is involved in and the announcers keep saying the other drivers are "up her rear".

  19. Rutgers and Syracuse going to overtime in the Carrier Dome. The game is available on ESPN3.com, or a local affiliate if you are in the Big East market.

  20. You don't want to turn this game for the basketball, turn it on for the analyst, Jack Armstrong. The guy sounds a bit like Dickie V and speaks only in cliches.

  30. Wow, South Florida. Just wow.

And that is why they are in 15th place in the Big East.

  32. Call me crazy, but I am planning on live blogging every game of the Big East Tournament this year, including the first round, something I have never done before. It is crazy, but teams like South Florida, Rutgers, and DePaul are capable of hanging in there until losing it in the end in very comical fashion.

Of course, I do have a life and may miss some parts of some games, but still, it will be fun. It is my Spring Break week and there will not be much else to do.

  33. Providence just had an epic fail.

Yep, I am totally live blogging this entire tournament. The first two days may be more entertaining than the last three!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Of course, Providence's epic fail only sent them to overtime instead of giving the Friars the win. But still, they fell behind by 14 before you could blink, then came back to force OT, only to fall behind by 6 in OT now.
