How To Turn Off a Longtime Fan

It's been a longtime coming, but I'm slowly and gradually turning away from the San Francisco 49ers. I just have no connection to this team anymore. I barely follow anymore what transactions they make and I wasn't even bitter when Aaron Rodgers won the Super Bowl. There were several factors that lead me to not caring about the Niners.

1. The rebirth of the Giants- The Giants rebirth is a big reason why I barely follow the Niners anymore. Even before the Giants won the world series, I followed them more because I fell in love with players like Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, and Brian Wilson. Winning the world series just took my love for them into overdrive. I'm sure if they struggle and are on the verge of not making the playoffs come September, I'll rekindle my love for the 49ers but I doubt it.

2. My love for college football- My growing love for college football is another big factor for not following the 49ers as closely anymore. Watching college football all day on Saturday means that I don't watch as many NFL or 49ers games anymore.

3. Alex Smith

Six years of seeing him toil as the 49ers quarterback is enough. I'm over the 49ers not picking Rodgers, it's time to move on and that includes the 49ers moving on from Alex Smith. Only one problem though, Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers are considering bringing Smith back!

Look I realize without a new CBA the 49ers can't trade for a quarterback or even sign one in free agency. I know they're doing their homework and keeping all options available. I know it's actually Alex Smith's decision if he wants to return to the 49ers. I realize that the quarterback draft class is weak. But I cannot root for this team if Alex Smith is brought back and there's a another quarterback competition in the Summer involving him.

Six years is enough of Smith. Six years of watching him overthrow Frank Gore in the flats on a screen pass is enough. Six years of watching Smith throw more interceptions than touchdowns is enough. Six years of watching an apathetic Smith only fired up when the Candlestick crowd is booing him is enough. Six years of watching Alex Smith fail is enough.

And what really pisses me off is the excuses made for the guy. I realize Mike Nolan and Mike Singletary weren't exactly positive influences on the guy. I realize having to deal with a different offensive coordinator every year he played wasn't good for him. Enough excuses though, when will 49ers fans finally admit the guy doesn't have the talent to be an NFL starting quarterback?

He can't even throw a screen pass that doesn't go over Gore's head. Watch film on Smith. Almost every pass he throws out in the flats to Gore is over Gore's head. If you're an NFL quarterback and you can't complete a screen pass, then you don't belong as an NFL starting quarterback.

So how do you turn off a longtime fan? By bringing back a quarterback that a fan has zero faith in. I have zero faith in Alex Smith and if he's brought back to the 49ers, I'll stop following this team until he's gone and will never return. Alex Smith will always break your heart and he'll break your heart as well Harbaugh. Just ask Mike Nolan and Mike Singletary.

  1. You are a prime reason why other teams have dubbed our fan "the whiners". When the going gets tough, quit! Don't worry, when the giants have lost 3 straight and Bochy is playing Aaron Rowand, after you've finished your crying on MCC you'll be dying for football and will be back.

As for Alex Smith, let's be a little objective here, huh?

    1) He overthrows Gore because Gore is short. He's one of the shortest backs in the league. Half the time when he is checking it down, he has 3 hands in his face.

2)He is generally accurate on intermediate throws(Harbaugh's most likely passing game)

3)It is quite possible that Harbaugh is being smart here making sure he has at the very least a serviceable starter at the position in case the CBA prevents him from upgrading the position.

    4) It is still very likely that Alex has had it with the boos and will sign with another team. Nothing is set in stone, yet you are already jumping ship when we aren't the dominant franchise we used to be.

Here's a tip, go be a Patriot fan you bandwagon sissy. And when the Giants come in 3rd this year, you can go be a Red Sox fan. LMAO.
