Audio: The Edgar Renteria HR Call & The Final Out

When the Giants announce games on the radio they rotate calling the action every two-three innings. Dave Flemming has always called the 3rd-4th innings and the 6th-7th innings. Because Jon Miller called the game for ESPN Radio, Flemming shared radio duties with Duane Kuiper with Mike Krukow doing color commenting. Dave Flemming was on the call for the top of the 7th inning of the fifth game in the 2010 World Series. That inning will also forever be known as the Edgar Renteria inning. Flemming was on the call, listen.

Classic! In the post-game wrap, Flemming said his vocal cords exploded on that Renteria home run. He did sound like a 13-year-old boy going through puberty. I'd probably sound like a kid as well calling that home run.

The clinching out though is audio I could listen to forever. Duane Kuiper was on the call as it should have been. Jon Miller might be the best baseball announcer in the game, Kuiper is the guy who I grew up with. I grew up in the television era and Duane Kuiper was the voice of the Giants. So for this special moment, the voice of my childhood, got to call the final out of the 2010 World Series.

I love Duane Kuiper and I couldn't be happier that he got to call the final out of the World Series for the San Francisco Giants. That was a tremendous call by a tremendous play-by-play announcer.

  1. I don't know if the call is anywhere to be found, but Jon Miller was calling the game for ESPN Radio.
