Justin inspired me. He projected the Philadelphia Phillies post-season roster. Now the Giants haven't made the playoffs yet, but I'm confident the Giants will make the playoffs. They'll either win the division or win the Wild Card. (I probably just jinxed the Giants.) The strength of the Giants is still their pitching, so my roster will have 13 position players and 12 pitchers and pray that non of the post-season games go into extra innings.
Starters in Bold
Catchers (2)
Buster Posey
Eli Whiteside
Infielders (6)
Aubrey Huff
Freddy Sanchez
Juan Uribe
Pablo Sandoval
Travis Ishikawa
Mike Fontenot
Outfielders (5)
Jose Guillen
Andres Torres
Pat Burrell
Cody Ross
Aaron Rowand
Notable Admissions: Edgar Renteria, Nate Schierholtz
In my dream world the Giants wouldn't have to worry about Posey getting hurt for they could leave Eli Whiteside off the roster, but that's why it's called a dream world. I'm leaving Renteria off the post-season roster because he hasn't played in a while and Mike Fontenot is more versatile. Fontenot can play three different positions and has been a nice piece for the Giants down the stretch. Also I don't see Bochy leaving Schierholtz on the roster over Rowand. Knowing Bochy he will go with the veteran player in Rowand and the versatile player in Cody Ross. Travis Ishikawa is on the roster for his left-handed bat and for a late inning defensive replacement. With Huff able to play the outfield, it makes sense that Ishikawa is on this roster.
Starting Pitchers (4)
Tim Lincecum
Matt Cain
Barry Zito
Jonathon Sanchez
I doubt this will happen, but I was hoping Bochy would make Zito the fourth starter. I see Bochy going with a rotation of Lincecum, Zito, Cain, Sanchez. Bochy loves his veteran players, so Zito will definitely be the second starter to give the Giants a righty, lefty match-ups. I also don't see Madison Bumgarner cracking the starting rotation during the playoffs because he's a rookie.
Relievers (8)
Brian Wilson
Sergio Romo
Javier Lopez
Jeremy Affeldt
Santiago Castilla
Guillermo Mota
Ramon Ramirez
Madison Bumgarner
Notable Admissions: Dan Runzler, Chris Ray
If Runzler didn't get hurt and the Giants didn't trade for Javier Lopez, then he probably would have made the post-season roster. Chris Ray also doesn't make the roster as a long reliever over Madison Bumgarner. The Giants must go with the guys that have brought them this far and these are the relievers that have carried the team this month. Somehow guys like Ramon Ramirez, Mota, and Castilla have carried the Giants with Romo and Wilson closing out games. They have been the biggest strength for this team the past month.
(Watch the Giants miss out on the playoffs now that I projected their post-season roster.)
