Foul Ball: Giants Send Bengie Molina Packing

Sorry for a lack of a Foul Ball post. I wanted to spend a little more time this morning concentrating on the NBA free agents.

I did want to share with everyone that the San Francisco Giants traded catcher Bengie Molina to the Texas Rangers for relief pitcher Chris Davis and a player to be named later. I couldn't be happier about this move. It does four things for the Giants.

1) It allows Buster Posey to finally play at catcher full time. And if Posey doesn't play full time it allows Eli Whiteside to play more. Molina was so bad this season, I'd rather see Whiteside start.

2) Sends that albatross known as Bengie Molina away from the Giants. Bengie can't field, get on base, hit for power, or hit with runners in scoring position no longer. He was a waste of a lineup spot.

3) I believe Molina was becoming a cancer in the locker room. Bengie has a lot of bad habits and those bad habits were leaking into the locker room. His influence on Pablo Sandoval was troubling, especially this season.

4) The Giants added relief pitching. This was a much needed area for the Giants this season. Besides Brian Wilson, the Giants relievers have been inconsistent all year. Hopefully the Giants will get some much needed consistency from Chris Davis.

  1. Too bad the video of SportsCenter clowning Bengie Molina's speed was yanked off YouTube.
