Foul Ball: R.I.P. Ernie Harwell

Longtime Tigers announcer Ernie Harwell passed away last night. In his memory, here is his final speech to Tigers fans last year.

Philadelphia 2 St. Louis 1, 10 Innings: Another idiot ran onto the field in Philly, this time during before the start of the ninth inning. Cole Hamels would give up the tying run and the game would go to extra innings. No worries though, Carlos Ruiz hit the game-winning home run in the 10th and no one was tased.

Cleveland 5 Toronto 8: Jose Bautista went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run to give the Blue Jays the victory. Bautista homered in his second straight game, while the Blue Jays have hit 14 home runs in their last six games, winning five of those games.

Florida 6 San Francisco 9, 12 Innings: Tim Lincecum had another strong outing (7 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, 13 strikeouts), but that wasn't enough as the Giants blew the 2nd straight game that Lincecum has pitched. Aaron Rowand tied the game in the ninth inning and Aubrey Huff won the game with a two-run double in the 12th inning. Great night for Bay Area fans.

Chi White Sox 2 Kansas City 7: Crazy Jose Guillen hit a two-run home run and Luke Hochevar pitched six strong innings to pick up the victory for the Royals. The White Sox left seven men on base and grounded into two double plays. The great Ron Karkovice can't be pleased.

NY Mets 5 Cincinnati 4: Rob Barajas hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to give the Mets the victory. This was only after the Reds tied the game in the eighth with solo home runs by Joey Votto and Scott Rolen. There were five total solo home runs hit in the game.

David Wright Quote: The Mets finally were able to close a game, pleasing David Wright. From the AP recap, “It’s good to win a close game,” said Wright. “That’s something we have not been able to do a lot of this year. Hopefully this gives us a little momentum.”

Washington 6 Atlanta 3: Livan Hernandez keeps chugging along. Hernandez (5 1/2 innings, five hits, 2 runs, five walks, 1 strikeout) pitched another solid game for the Nationals. Livan is 4-1 on the year with a 0.99 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 1.02 BABIP, and 0.5 WAR. He's the perfect mentor for Stephen Strasberg.

Seattle 2 Tampa Bay 5: Tampa Bay continues to win, no matter where they are out. James Shields (8 innings, eight hits, 2 runs, no walks, eight strikeouts) picked up his fourth win of the season. Evan Longoria went 3-for-4 with a home run, RBI, and a walk.

Los Angeles 6 Milwaukee 11: Four different Brewers players drove in two or more runs in the game. Greg Zaun homered and drove in two runs. The Brewers still managed to leave eight men on base. Chris Narveson (6 innings, four hits, three runs, two walks, 3 strikeouts) picked up the victory for Milwaukee.

Oakland 7 Texas 6: Ryan Sweeney drove in a career high five runs on three hits, including a home run for the A's. This was Oakland's second win in eight games. Seven different A's pitchers held off a late Rangers rally to preserve the victory.
