Foul Ball: Red Sox Swept & 10 Million Bucks Not Well Spent
Baltimore 3 Boston 2, 10 Innings: Glorious day if your a Orioles fan or Yankees fan. The Red Sox were swept by Baltimore over the weekend to slip to four games under .500 and seven games behind the first place Rays. The greatest thing about this victory was Jonathon Paplebon giving up the game-winning double to Ty Wigginton after committing an throwing error. It's going to be a long year in Boston.
Toronto 9 Oakland 3: 10 million bucks not well spent is what Oakland fans must be saying about Ben Sheets at the moment. The 10 million dollar man Sheets gave up 10 hits, nine runs, in 3 1/3 innings against the Blue Jays. Sheets had no control at all and even admitted as so. “My location was terrible,” said Sheets, who dropped to 1-3. “You can’t throw balls over the middle of the plate in the big leagues. I don’t think I could throw it over the middle of the plate in Little League right now.” Oakland fans can't be pleased at this point.
Ben Sheets Quote: Sheets if finding out how tough it is to pitch in the American League. From the AP recap, “When you come to a new league its kind of like you’re a rookie again,” Sheets said. “There’s no comfort zone.”
Chicago Cubs 10 Arizona 5: While Sheets is struggling to adjust to the American League, the same can be said about Edwin Jackson. Jackson allowed 11 hits, eight runs, in four innings of work. Alfonso Soriano homered twice and drove in four runs. And when Marlyn Bryd isn't making behind the back catches, he's homering and driving in three runs.
Tampa Bay 1 Kansas City 0: The Royals need to apologize to Zach Greinke like right now. Poor Greinke has pitched well this season and still doesn't have a win to show for it. Between a poor bullpen and lack of run support, Greinke hasn't received a single break this year. Yesterday was no different as Greinke threw a complete game giving up four hits and a Evan Longoria home run. It didn't matter as the Royals failed to score and Greinke picked up his third loss of the year.
NY Yankees 12 Chicago White Sox 3: It must be May, because Leigh Teixeira's husband snapped out of his slump by going 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Robinson Cano continues his hot streak by going 2-for-4 with a home run, 3 RBIs, and a walk.
Ozzie Guillen Quote: Ozzie was kicked out of the game arguing balls and strikes. From the AP recap, “I was protecting A.J. (Pierzynski),” Guillen said of his catcher. I wouldn't protect that scumbag.
Philadelphia 11 New York Mets 5: Rectum face hit a grand slam and Chase Utley hit a two-run home run to cap off a nine-run fourth inning for the Phillies and chase Johan Santana from the game. Santana only lasted 3 2/3 innings giving up eight hits, 10 runs, and four home runs. Old man Moyer picked up the victory for the Phillies.
