New York Mets 2 Washington 5: Instant replay was much needed in this game. Instant replay was used on a Josh Willingham Grand Slam that was originally called a hit. The Willingham grand slam in the 1st inning off of Johan Santana would be the only runs the Nationals would need in the game. Starting pitcher old man Livan Hernandez does what he always does, chew up five innings giving up five hits and no runs.
Houston 1 Philadelphia 2: While there are no undefeated teams left in baseball, there is a team that hasn't won a game yet this year. Poor Roy Oswalt only gave up five hits and two runs and still picked up the loss. His offense protecting only managed one run and seven hits off of Roy Halladay.
Detroit 9 Cleveland 8: This was a wild game that saw the Indians jump out to a 5-0 lead in the first innings and sending Justin Verlander to the showers by the fifth inning. Cleveland would take an 8-4 lead into the eighth inning before their bullpen imploded. The Tigers would score the game-winning run in the ninth on a Chris Perez wild pitch which scored Carlos Guillen.
Texas 9 Seattle 2: So much for those high expectations of the Seattle Mariners. After trading for Cliff Lee and signing Chone Figgins, the Mariners have started the year 2-5 including losing two out of three games to Texas. Michael Young and Misty May's husband each knocked in two runs for the Rangers with Vlad Guerrero added three hits and one RBI. Scott Feldman went seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs and picking up the victory for the Rangers.
San Francisco 6 Atlanta 3: A four hour rain delay couldn't stop Tim Lincecum. Okay, so maybe the rain delay did stop him for the first couple of hours. Brian McCann hit a two-run home run off of Lincecum in the first inning, from there though Lincecum settled down. Lincecum ended up going seven innings and striking out ten. Pablo Sandoval finally broke out of his mini-slump with a three-for-four day with two RBI's and a home run.
Chicago White Sox 5 Minnesota 4: A very bizarre ending to this game. With the Sox holding onto a one-run lead, Bobby Jenks's goatee gave up a single with two outs to J.J. Hardy. Pinch-hitter Jim Thome lined a shot to the left-center gap. Because the White Sox infield was shifted to the right side for Thome, Hardy figured he could score. Hardy was wrong. Third baseman Mark Tehan positioned himself to field Juan Pierre's throw from left field. Tehan threw to catcher A.J. Pierznski to tag out Hardy. Ballgame. White Sox snap a four-game losing streak.
Milwaukee 8 St. Louis 7: Urban dictionary defines Palooza as a crazy part. And palooza is best way to describe this game between St. Louis-Milwaukee. There were seven home runs hit in the game, including two by Albert Pujols. St. Louis scored three runs in the ninth inning off of Trevor Hoffman to tie the game. The three runs came off back-to-back home runs by Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, Casey McGehee hit the game-winning home run off of Cardinals reliever Kyle McClellan. Crazy ending to a entertaining game.
Arizona 15 Pittsburgh 6: All you need to know about this game is the Diamondbacks scored 13 runs in the fourth inning alone. Major fail by the Pirates.
The Tigers are doing their best to try to fall behind in 75% of their games to come back late (today as well--thanks, Scherzer!).
ReplyDeleteSide note: I'm not gonna jinx it, but it looks like MLB Extra Innings might be free today, too, at least for me.
