St. Louis 10 Atlanta 4: The Braves have now lost nine in a row and are behind the Nationals in the NL East standings. Jason Heyward finally broke out his slump by hitting a homer, but it wasn't enough for the Braves. David Freese stepped up for a resting Albert Pujols by homering and knocking in six runs. Adan Wainwright picked up his fourth win of the year by going 6 innings giving up six hits, three runs, and striking out four.
Bobby Cox Quote: Atlanta went 0-7 on their road trip and needless to say old Bobby is not too happy. From the AP recap, “I don’t think I’ve ever been on one like this,” manager Bobby Cox said. “Probably have, but it’s not going to be in our memory, that’s for sure. It was a lousy trip. It’s been a horrible experience to endure.”
Texas 5 Chicago White Sox 7: The Rangers blew a 3-1 lead in the seventh inning off a fielding error. Fail! Paul Konerko homered twice and drove in four runs for Chicago. Gavin Floyd once again struggled for the White Sox but pitched well enough to pick up his first victory of the year.
Tampa Bay 11 Kansas City 1: The Rays keep winning and Joe Maddon keeps wearing hoodies given to him by Belichick. Jason Bartlett and Reid Brignac each drove in three runs for the Rays. Matt Garza pitched six innings giving up five hits, one run, and striking out nine to pick up the victory.
Toronto 6 Oakland 3: John Buck hit three home runs as Toronto finally won a home game. Buck drove in five of the six Blue Jays runs. Oakland pitcher Justin Duchscherer had to leave the game in the fourth with a injured hip. I feel bad for the guy because he missed all of last year with personnel problems and has missed time before with hip problems.
