Foul Ball: A Day at the Park

San Francisco 0 St. Louis 2: I attended this game yesterday. It was a typical Giants game. No offense all defense. Matt Cain only lasted five inning giving up two runs, six hits, and a Albert Pujols home run. At least I got to enjoy some Gordon Biersch garlic fries while wearing my new Giants hat. (Picture to the Right: I'm the fat one with the orange shirt. The guy in the middle wearing the ridiculous 1980's Vuarnet sunglasses is my father and the women in the Cardinals shirt is a family friend.)

Arizona 8 Philadelphia 6: I don't know what speaks more. That the Phillies had something called Ross Gload as their leadoff hitter or that they still managed to score six runs? Goes to show how you how deep the Phillies bench is. The Phillies pitching let them down in this game. Kyle Kendrick gave up five runs in five innings of work. The Phillies managed to tie the game, only to see David Herndon blow the save.

Boston 6 Baltimore 7, 10 innings: Sweet revenge for Cla Meredith. The former Red Sox prospect picked up his save as an Oriole by escaping a two-on, one-out jam in the tenth inning. Rhyne Hughes knocked in the game-winning run for the Orioles in the tenth to snap a 10 game losing streak to Boston.

Tampa Bay 6 Toronto 0: Amazing that the Yankees get all the headlines, but the Rays actually lead the AL East. Actually I'm not surprised by that at all. The Rays may not have the power bats like New York, but they do beat you with speed and their ability to take a pitch and reach base. Their pitching has also been outstanding. Case in point, David Price's start against Toronto. Price pitched a complete game four-hit shut-out.

Washington 1 Los Angeles 0: Scott Olsen and the Nationals bullpen only needed one run against the Dodgers on Sunday. Olson and the bullpen didn't allow a run, gave up only one walk and seven hits while striking out nine. Adam Dunn drove in the only run of the game in the 1st inning.

Oakland 11 Cleveland 0: The story of this game wasn't so much the offensive output by the A's themselves, but by Eric Chavez. Chavez has been hampered in past years by a variety of injuries including a back injury that threatened to end his career. Chavez went 2 for 4 with three RBI's and a walk against the Indians. It might not sound like much, but what this guy has gone through recently it must feel like a big sigh of relief for Chavez.
