Boston 4 New York Yankees 6: Hideki Okajima and Boston fans have plenty of reasons to gripe this mourning. There were screwed by one of the worst umpires in the Majors in Angel Hernandez. In the eighth inning with the bases loaded, Hernandez called a ball 4 for Nick Johnson. The Yankees took a 5-4 lead and never looked back. Look at the chart to the left, Okajima clearly threw four strikes instead of four balls. Red Sox fans have an legitimate reason to be mad this morning.
Tampa Bay 4 Baltimore 3: Mike Gonzalez is going to have a long year in Baltimore if he keeps blowing saves like he did last night against the Rays. Gonzalez loaded the bases by giving up a double, single and by intentionally walking a hitter. With the count 1-0, Carl Crawford lined a pitch to right field to knock in the game-winning runs. New season, same old Orioles.
Houston 0 San Francisco 3: Barry Zito pitched beautifully against the Astros. Zito went six innings giving up no runs, three hits, and five strikeouts. The Giants leadoff hitter Aaron Rowand continues to suck by going 0 for 5 leaving three men on base. Rowand has gone 0 for 10 on the season. And we're stuck with this loser for another three years.
Milwaukee 7 Colorado 5: The Randy Wolff signing is already paying off for the Brewers. Wolff struck out eight in 6 2/3 innings and only giving up nine hits and four runs. Casey McGehee hit a three-run home run and Rickie Weeks added a solo home run. Old man Trevor Hoffman picked up his first save of the season.
Oakland 2 Seattle 1 in OT: Mark Ellis knocked in the game-winning run with two outs in the tenth inning to give Oakland their first victory of the season. Ian Snell and Dallas Braden each only gave up 1 run in the first seven innings. Kurt Suzuki went two for five with with a home run.
Anaheim 3 Minnesota 5: Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, and J.J. Hardy each homered to give the Twins a 5-3 victory over the Angels. Nick Blackburn went six and 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs while walking four and striking out four. Jon Rauch picked up his first save in place of the injured Joe Nathan.
