Colts vs. Saints heading to Super Bowl XLIV

First off congrats to the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts for winning their conferences for a chance at the Super Bowl in Miami. I'll get into more thoughts about the upcoming Super Bowl tomorrow mourning but for now it's time to congratulations.

I want to congratulate JFein, Mookie, James Craven, and Kris Thompson for making our live blogs possible. You guys have been great since week 1 and I look forward to running more live blogs during the NCAA tournament. I would also like to thank the non-trolls who stopped by the live blog to make comments. Everybody should tap themselves on the back for their work.

Congrats fellas.

  1. I'll be around for a Super Bowl live blog probably....

  2. We'll probably have to leave up an open thread or hope AA posts an open thread.

  3. I'm blushing, Keith. I didn't do anything but show up...

So is it true that Pete Carroll is going to pay for Reggie Bush's week in Miami?

  4. Every player thinks Brett Favre is going to retire. We have to go through this for another 6 months now. Kill me now.

While I am surprised at how a-holeish some Saints fans are, I am happy for Brees and Sean Payton and that team that does deserve it.

  5. New Orleans is filled with horrible cretins. I'm like you and happy for Brees and Payton.

  6. The first time two domed teams are playing in a Super Bowl and the first time since the Cowboys vs. Bills that the top two seeds are playing against each other.

  7. Also, considering the dominance by 3 teams in the AFC:

9 years, 9 different NFC champions

  8. Troy Aikman is very reassuring to Vikings fans......

    /Sarcasm'd

  9. @ kt: Did you see the game at all where you went?

  10. I have to watch ESPN News and see what Favre says. Since he denied an interview with Fox, will he even show up for the post game interview.

  11. the always classy Brett Favre blowing off reporters...

  12. @JFein just the game, no sound..i assume Aikman couldn't talk straight as usual?

imo, Fox did not do a very good job on the production...

    ReplyDelete
  13. @KT: I thought Aikman did a good job, now Buck on the other hand..................

  14. oh, and the bar erupted on the Favre pick....

i think no one outside of Vikings fans was rooting for them

  15. Did Berman and Jackson do highlights yet?

    ReplyDelete
  16. @ kt: Yeah, Aikman got big game jitters again. He was caught up in the game and nervous about the game, constantly stumbling over his words and talking with that nervous tick about him.

I thought Buck was decent, on the other hand. He had a good call to end the game. It was the 1st time a field goal kick ever excited his voice....

  17. Favre's last pass as a pro?

Now if only I can find a video this good of Hartley's FG. They are all recorded off the TV with screaming fans...

  18. Turn on ESPN News! Favre looks like he's ready to cry.

  19. @JFein well, if an OT FG to go to the Super Bowl couldn't excite you, then maybe you shouldn't find another line of media work...

and Aikman needs a 3rd man to play off of.

    Still no sign of Favre

  20. They are showing him on PrimeTime as well.

    Yeah, he's heartbroken.

DAre I check out the reaction at Daily Norseman?

  21. There is something buzzing in the Favre press conference. It's annoying to listen to.

    ReplyDelete
  22. There are heartbreaking ways to lose a championship game, and then there is what just happened in New Orleans.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @JFein: Whatever you do, don't post any comments.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @ 49er16: I won't. I don't really have anything to say. Vikings fans are not like Cowboys fans or Patriots fans.

Believe me, I know what it's like losing championship games like that. Especially when you lose despite significantly outplaying the other team.

  25. is it really fair to blame Favre? i mean Minny did lose 2 fumbles inside the 10 yard line

and they got jobbed on that horrid PI call in OT

    ReplyDelete
  26. @JFein my best friend (a Vikings fan) sent me a text saying don't talk to me for 24 hours, FWIW

    ReplyDelete
  27. Also the 12 men in the huddle penalty killed them. I blame Childress most of all for the terrible game management at the end of the game.

  28. And here's a first.....my shirt actually brought a team GOOD luck!

/Wearing a Bloomsburg University sweatshirt in honor of Jahri Evans, who I am most proud for.
//Takes pride in having someone from a school that I go to not known for great football achieve something in football.

  29. @ 49er16: If Childress is not a complete idiot in those last couple of minutes, I do not think Favre throws that INT. The poor management forced an obvious pass and forced a pass where he needed to gain yards. If he just throws a short passes to begin with in that situation or guns one to the endzone as they also should have tried, the Vikings probably win it in regulation.

  30. @JFein didn't Chuck Daly also graduate from Bloomsburg?

    ReplyDelete
  31. looking forward, can someone give me a realistic explanation of how the Saints beat the Colts? because i'm looking hard and i don't see it...i think the Colts win big

    ReplyDelete
  32. @ kt: The Saints defense is going to have to step up big time, that's for sure.

I do think they will be able to move the ball, though. I think the game will be closer than some people are thinking right now...

    ReplyDelete
  33. However, I do not think that the Saints will win.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Here's video of the Hartley kick with the Buck call

Ignore the odd bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

    ReplyDelete
  35. your link didn't pop up JFein...

i just don't see the Saints scoring 40 or 50 on the Colts. and they won't turn the ball over 5 times.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow JFein......way to forget the link!

  37. It's too early to say how well the Saints defense will play against the Colts offense. Give it a week to marinate then come up with an opinion.

  38. I have an 8 AM tomorrow. I'm going to throw up those videos at FARN and will call it a night.

Great set of games, guys. Especially that NFC duel. That was special.
