Must List: Week 11

(Ed Note: Sorry for the lack of posts this week. Between fighting a cold and attending school, I haven't had a lot of time for blogging.)

Here's a quote from Jason Whitlock's Foxsports.com column today about the college football season.

Is it just me, or is this college football season boring?

Wasn't it just last year that a top-10 team got beat every Thursday? Wasn't it just last year that there was a great game every single weekend? Now it seems like there's an officiating controversy every single weekend.
That quote alone signifies the way the college football season has gone. The season has become boring. The SEC doesn't have one significant match up because both Florida and Alabama have rapped up their divisions and are now waiting to play each other in the SEC Championship. Texas has basically rapped up the Big XII. The Pac-10 is the deepest conference this season, but there isn't one dominating team. There is a bunch of good teams. The ACC is just bland again. And the Big East is good, but not great.

So for the rest of the season we have to search for a good game on Saturday and it shouldn't be that way.

Here's this week's announcing schedule.

Friday, November 13th
West Virginia @ Cincinnati (ESPN2, 8PM)- Here I am bagging on the lack of great match ups in college football, and we have one on Friday. Let the domino affect happen in the Big East. Cincinnati is undefeated and is on the outside looking in at the national championship. West Virginia still has a chance to win the Big East, but they have to beat Cincinnati. Quarterback Tony Pike is ready to play for Cincinnati, but Zach Collaros will start in his place. It's hard to imagine, but this will be the best game of the weekend.

Saturday, November 14th
Tennessee @ Ole Miss (CBS, Noon)- This game certainly became interesting after three Tennessee players decided to rob a gas station. Tennessee is a mediocre SEC team, but they are the most fascinating team in the nation. Lane Kiffin has to be the smartest coach in the nation or the dumbest.

Florida @ South Carolina (CBS, 3:30PM)- The only reason to watch this game is to watch Urb and Saint Timmy run up the score on former Gator coach Steve Spurrier. Also you can watch Uncle Vern and Gary fawn over the greatness known as Saint Timmy. Even CBS can't find an interesting SEC game to air this week.

Iowa @ Ohio State (ABC, 3:30PM)- This game will most likely determine who will go to the Rose Bowl to receive an butt-kicking from a Pac-10 team. Iowa will be without Ricky Stanzi until their bowl game, so I like Ohio State in this game. In my search though to find an interesting college football match up, I came to this game. Goes to show you how boring college football has become this year.

Notre Dame @ Pittsburgh (ABC, 8PM)- Notre Dame has become such a train wreck, that ESPN sent Musberger and Herbstreit to witness the carnage. If you thought Notre Dame couldn't become even more of a joke, check out these quotes from their defensive coordinator Corwin Brown about their loss to Navy last week.

"What I think is crazy is a lack of imagination for what they do. I don't ever get up here and talk about the illegal cut blocks. They hit [Brian Smith] illegally last year and put him out. They hit [Robert Blanton] on one of the most malicious plays I've ever seen since I've been playing. And I called him about it. And I told him I thought it was very poor. He probably thought I called because we lost; I was going to say something to him before the game but I didn't. Very malicious. And in this game, which we're supposed to be playing for our kids, you don't let your players do something like that.”
Stay classy Notre Dame and don't let those sour grapes ruin your meal.

Texas Tech @ Oklahoma State (ABC, 8PM)- At least we should get one high scoring game this week. No matter who's in Mike Leach's system, Tech will always be able to put points on the board and they should be able to do it again this week against the Cowboys.

Drink of Choice, New Belgium 2 Below: I've talked about New Belgium brewery before. They make some of the best beers in the states. Fat Tire is their regular beer they brew, but they also brew some of the best seasonal beers and 2 below is one of them. It's the perfect seasonal beer for the winter.

  2. Whoa, does Keith have multiple personalities or is that Jay? ;-)

Anyway, I have a meeting tonight so I might be a little late to the live blog (if you're still doing it) and I am working a benefit show/concert for TWLOHA from 4 to midnight so I'll only be around for the early college football games.
