Dang! We are already half way through the college football season. The season really hasn't disappointed. We've had upsets and classic finishes. JFein should be around for most of the day, until his Phillies play later tonight. I will be around all day and especially for the night games. As always I will update this thread throughout the day with my comments announcer quotes, and videos of today's games.
Here's the Must List, announcing schedule, and Pam Ward Chronicles.
Mourning Games:
- In honor of Greg Paulus throwing his college football leading 10th interception this season today, I give you this video.
- If everyone wants to watch a game with two impotent quarterbacks, then I suggest watching the Tennessee-Georgia game. Joe Cox has already thrown an interception for Georgia and Jonathon Crompton is due to throw an interception for Tennessee.
- I'm never making another prediction again. I predicted a high scoring game between Arkansas and Auburn. Arkansas is living up to this expectation, but Auburn isn't. 27-3 Arkansas with one minute left in the 1st half.
- After throwing his 10 interception, Syracuse finally pulled Greg Paulus. It didn't matter as Syracuse lost 34-13 to West Virginia.
- After taking an early 10-0 lead, Purdue once again fell apart this time to Minnesota. The Golden Gophers scored 21 unanswered points before Purdue finally scored. Purdue ended up losing that game 35-20.
- After Auburn scored 20 unanswered points in the third quarter, Arkansas responded by stuffing Auburn's drives and answered with two touchdowns and a field goal. Auburn loses for the first time this year 44-23 to Arkansas.
Afternoon Games:
- Check out this stat line from Ohio State's Terrelle Pryor from the 1st half. 4 for 12, 70 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. It's amazing that Pryor was last year's number one recruit out of high school. Ohio St. 14 Wisconsin 10 at half.
- 3-0 UCLA over Oregon at half. Pac-10 Football: Where Scoring Happens!
- 16-0 Alabama over Ole Miss at half. Three field goals and a late 2nd quarter Mark Ingram touchdown run is all the scoring in this game. Ole Miss offense looks like they are trying to run in cement. Alabama does have a great defense though.
Here are the highlights of the Tennessee-Georgia game. Tennessee quarterback Jonathon Crompton had the best game of his college career. I'm sure after this game Lane Kiffin ripped down the Peyton Manning statue in front of Neyland Stadium and put up his own statue.
Here are the highlights of the Arkansas-Auburn game. Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallet had a huge game, while Auburn lost for the first time this season.
- Ole Miss has continued as this year's biggest fraud. After losing to South Carolina last week, Ole Miss was hammered 22-3 by Alabama. Ole Miss only had 193 total yards on offense all day.
Night Games:
- Be prepared for, "How tough is Tim Tebow? Two weeks ago he suffered a concussion and this week he's playing. What a warrior." talk from Uncle Vern and Gary.
- I don't know how much stock we should take in this score, but Colorado is beating Texas 14-10 at half. Texas always seems to be a 2nd half type of team, so it will be interesting to see how the Longhorns respond in the 2nd half.
- 10-3 Florida at half. Tebow just handed the ball off at first, but then started looking more like himself in the 2nd quarter. Tebow threw a touchdown pass to Riley Cooper, with the help of Cooper cheating to get free from the defensive back and the ref not noticing.
- Well it wasn't pretty, but the Gators beat LSU 13-3 in Baton Rouge. Florida's offense struggled in the red zone all night, but LSU's offense wasn't much better. LSU only had 161 total yards in the game, while having 65 penalty yards.
I'm out for the night. The Sharks are playing and the Iowa-Michigan game is late in the 4th quarter. Everyone enjoy the rest of their nights, and be here tomorrow for the NFL Live Blog with Mookie, JFein, and myself.
I can't wait for the Alabama-Ole Miss game. Too bad it isn't on until 3:30.
ReplyDeleteAlready 7-0 Arkansas
ReplyDeleteI expect a lot of scoring in that game.
Greg Paulus has thrown 10 interceptions this season. He leads college football in that category.
ReplyDeleteWoot. Penn State's winning 10-0.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I'm late, but I was not quite expecting to be up until 4:45 in the morning last night...
That a boy, JFein ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow was she?
Surprise, surprise. The Phillies-Rockies game has been postponed.
ReplyDeletehttp://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20091010&content_id=7420164&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
@ 49er16: I was not doing, that ;-)
ReplyDeleteActually it was just an unplanned hangout with me, my roommate, someone who lives next door, and the girl across the hall.
They should just play that game in San Francisco for the weekend. It's only going to be 60 degrees with clear sky's.
ReplyDeleteOddities of oddities, the forecast for Denver on Sunday and Monday
ReplyDeleteSunday: Partly cloudy, 56 degrees
Monday: Partly cloudy, 52 degrees.
Here's a thought. Do the Phillies pitch Cliff Lee for Game 4 on Monday or do they save him for a potential Game 5? He'd be going on normal rest if he pitched on Monday's Game 4.
Thank God for these early mourning SEC games. They are saving me from having to watch Pammy.
ReplyDeleteApparently only the Arkansas offense got the memo that today's game was supposed to be high-scoring.
ReplyDeleteI'm never making another prediction, JFein.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Georgia just returned the kickoff for a touchdown and no one on Tennessee touched the returner.
My TV channels right now.
ReplyDelete31: ESPN: Auburn-Arkansas
32: ESPN2: Purdue-Minny
33: ESPN Classic: Eastern Illinois-Penn State
34: CSN Philly: Richmond-JMU
35: FSN Pitt: Oklahoma State-Texas A&M
This hardly ever happens.
24-0 Penn State! LOL Eastern Illinois
ReplyDeleteEven though they struggle against other Big 10 teams, at least they are the only one who can dispose of the much weaker competition. If this was Ohio State playing Eastern Illinois, they'd be winning 10-7 right about now.
My TV channels right now.
ReplyDelete32: ESPN: Auburn-Arkansas
33: ESPN2: Purdue-Minny
34: CSN California: Tennessee-Georgia
36: CSN Bay Area: Texas A&M-Oklahoma St.
65: Versus: Iowa St.-Kansas
420: ESPNU: Houston-Miss St.
Some great games this mourning.
PSU blocked a punt!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Minny came back! From trailing 10-0, they are now up, 14-10.
ReplyDeleteChris Spielman never lets Griese speak. And I actually like Griese as a analyst.
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Arkansas!
ReplyDeleteI'm never making another prediction.
Touchdown Texas A&M with a 2-point conversion. They lead Okie. St. 8-7.
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell has gotten into Jonathon Crompton? He's thrown 3 touchdowns today. This is madness.
ReplyDeleteLOL Purdue 7-yard punt!
ReplyDeleteJust a little over 30-minutes away from my Huskies taking on ESU!
ReplyDeleteDave Lapham likes father-daughter action.
ReplyDeleteNow it's 45-3 Penn State.
ReplyDeleteLike I said earlier, with Ohio State in this game, it's 20-14.
I agree with Jay. Alabama-Ole Miss will be fantastic.
ReplyDeletewait a second. Eastern Illinois is still I-AA, right? what the hell is this game doing on anything other than ESPN 360?
ReplyDeletebtw Eastern Illinois has an interesting collection of alumni/attendees.
ReplyDeleteincl Joan Allen, Mike Shanahan, Brad Childress, Sean Payton, Kevin Duckworth, John Malkovich, and that guy who tries to play QB for the Dallas Cowgirls.
I wonder if the names of Jason Bristol and John Weaver will be showing up in the Pammies today....
ReplyDeleteRambo is destroying the Tennessee offense.
ReplyDelete"I'm not sure if you want to schedule Bloomsburg for your homecoming." - John Weaver
ReplyDeleteYeah, good point. We have Cheyney, which if you know anything about PSAC, is pretty much the conference laughing stock in more ways than 1.
Is that game on TV?
ReplyDeleteDon't look now, but Auburn is only down by 11 with the fourth quarter yet to be played.
ReplyDeleteGermany and the Ivory Coast have qualified for the World Cup today.
ReplyDeleteExpect a list of quite a few more as we progress through the day.
@ 49er16: It's on a local channel.
ReplyDeleteEvery week this station airs a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game of the week. This week it happens to be Bloom and ESU.
3-0 East Stroudsburg.
ReplyDeleteTennessee is hammering Georgia.
ReplyDeleteMark Richt is one of the most overrated coaches in college football...
ReplyDelete"Let's see, I can't tell, we're quite away from the field here." - Jason Bristol unable to identify the player on the receiving end of a BU trick play.
ReplyDeleteAh, the joys of listening to a D2 broadcast.
We've tied the game at 3!
ReplyDelete@JFein, I'm also getting the local broadcast of the UC Davis-South Dakota game.
ReplyDelete"Thats a a real function at the junction right there" Doc Walker on a big hit...
ReplyDeletealso, "When in doubt, use your high-IQ guys"
if Doc Walker worked for ESPN he'd retire the Pammy award...
Change of plans for the Phillies. J.A. Happ is starting Game 3 now instead of Pedro Martinez.
ReplyDelete7-point lead for Oklahoma State now.
ReplyDelete@JFein 10/24 Shippensburg @ Bloomsburg will also be on the SportsFever TV Network(love that name, btw)...start thinking of a wacky sign to get on TV
ReplyDelete"if i held my knife and fork like i hold my golf clubs i'd starve to death" Tim Brant
Nice one, LaTorre. Picked off at the 45 yard line. Still 3-3, but the ESU defense has gotten pressure on LaTorre and the offense outside of RB Derrick Price has not looked sharp.
ReplyDelete"He is going down hard." - Jason Bristol
ReplyDelete@ kt1000: Yeah, that is a great name. And thanks for the info, I actually did not know that. I was at a SFN game last year and me and a few friends basically made fun of the sideline reporter all game long. It was good times.
ReplyDelete40-yard field goal makes it 6-3 ESU in the 2nd quarter.
LaTorre scrambles...throws to Cory Steiger and it's caught at the 5. Steiger will take it in for a Huskies touchdown!!! PAT is good and it's 10-6 Huskies!
ReplyDeleteRoongo's on TV!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletefrankly, JFein, Bristol and Weaver can not be any worse than Tim Brant and Rich 'Doc' Walker basically making a mockery of themselves on the ACC Network.
ReplyDeleteESU fumbles!!! Picked up by Jesse Cooper of Bloomsburg and he takes it all the way to the ESU 30!!
ReplyDeleteCooper is so exciting and electric and fun to watch when he gets the ball either via kick or punt return or a fumble or INT return.
'this game is going to be the most witnessed in the history of Mississippi- Houston Nutt
ReplyDelete@ kt1000: Bristol isn't awful, although sometimes a little slow on picking things up, and Weaver is a captain obvious announcer who stutters a bit and has very little depth to his analysis.
ReplyDelete"He was very exposed there." - John Weaver
ReplyDeleteCraig Bolerjack doesn't have Wenzel bringing him down in this game.
ReplyDelete@Jay you're right, he'll have Steve Beuerlein doing the dragging down.
ReplyDelete/Beuerline sucks at announcing
I don't think that Bolerjack is that bad of an announcer, he just gets stuck with horrible partners.
ReplyDeleteBloomsburg leads East Stroudsburg 10-6 at halftime.
ReplyDelete@JFein what is this hockey? looks like it only took an hour to play the first half. do they even have commercials on that broadcast?
ReplyDelete@ kt1000: Yes, but they are not long, drawn out commercials and this game has been a pretty fast moving game.
ReplyDeleteThe football game I was at last week, although it was untelevised, was only a 2 hour, 15 minute game. Then again, the untelevised one I went to 2 weeks ago was pretty close to 3 hours.
this is OT, but my friend is trying to talk me in to paying $20 to see USA-Honduras tonight.however, i don't feel like paying extra to see the match, because I don't want to encourage other countries in CONCACAF to start doing this in the next WC qualifying in 2013
ReplyDeleteSoccer question......LALALALALALA
ReplyDelete49-yard field goal is good and my Huskies now lead it 13-6.
ReplyDeleteThe scoreboard credited ESU with the FG instead. Fail.
"Bloomsburg says it has it." - Jason Bristol, clearly not an English major.
ReplyDeleteLaTorre hands it off to Price and he is gone! A 26-yard rushing touchdown plus the extra point gives my Huskies a 20-6 lead.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@JFein 1:20pm, the 2007 Emmy award winner for Most Outstanding Sports Anchor in the Mid-Atlantic region is not amused by your critique
ReplyDeleteJeeze KT, where have you been? I was alerted about that two hours ago. ESPN stopped everygame they were covering to go to the hospital in LSU to give us live coverage of this announcement.
ReplyDelete"He goes out of bounds before he could be popped by Oscar Rivera." - Jason Bristol
ReplyDelete@ kt1000: Wait, Bristol won that and he's an English major???? Oy ve.
ReplyDelete@ kt1000: Yep. That's him.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, though, how many awards does Chris Berman win each year?
@49er16 critique noted...I was watching the ACC Game of the Week, and they have no time for Tebow foolishness
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWow. I can acknowledge a great catch when I see one and that was a nice catch. Touchdown ESU. 20-13 Bloom.
ReplyDelete"That was just an outstanding football catch." - John Weaver
@JFein as bad as Berman is, is it fair to compare him to the lead sports anchor in Harrisburg,PA?
ReplyDelete@ kt: Just saying that those awards don't mean much.
ReplyDeleteBristol has not been awful. Just a little slow on the uptake, some standard announcer comments that we twist into something sexual, and that episode of bad grammar.
I didn't think it was possible for Jevan Sneed to play worse than Joe Cox today.
ReplyDelete"East Stroudsburg would have been better off not taking the penalty. Wait, it was a delay of game penalty, they had no choice." - John Weaver.
ReplyDeleteThe punt with the delay of game was blown dead and who knows where ESU would have had the ball.
Crap. That's fumble is our 3rd turnover of the day.
ReplyDeleteThis has been a very entertaining football game, and not just because I am a student at one of the universities.
Haha! Just like that ESU throws an INT!
ReplyDelete"Let's send it down to Gordon Blaine"
ReplyDelete(tech problems)
"Actually, we'll wait a play to hear from Gordon. But first we'll take a break. End of the 3rd quarter." - Jason Bristol
Sure enough, they went to break, aired a play, and then had the sideline report from Gordon.
I must have been drunk and high when I picked Jevan Snead to win the Heisman.
ReplyDelete"back to the home of the redshirt Miss Americas, Oxford, Mississippi" Tim Brando
@JFein did you know Gordon Blaine is the owner and CEO of the Sports Fever Network? it's one way to guarantee you get to be on the air.
ReplyDelete/Google Key'd
@ kt1000: Wow. I actually did not know that. And yes, that it one way to get yourself on the air
ReplyDelete"Unfortunately it appears as if Jeff Giglio is on the field again." - Jason Bristol
ReplyDeleteHe meant to say that Giglio, a WR for ESU, is injured again.
and Alabama is taking it too Ole Miss
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Alabama!!!! Good-bye Ole Miss
ReplyDelete16-0 Bama before the half.
Wow. I thought Ole Miss would put up a fight in that one. I guess not.
ReplyDeleteam I the only one amused by the "SEC on CBS: A Saturday Tradition" graphics?
ReplyDeletehey Steve Beuerlein, you're the analyst. tell us what you think, instead of asking Craig what he thinks.
ReplyDeleteWow, this game has stalled dramatically. All of a sudden, it's a 3 and out punt fest with 6 minutes ledt and Bloom has the ball at their own 9.
ReplyDeleteDerrick Price to the ESU 30!!!!!
ReplyDeleteKenny Gonzalski gets the carry, goes through the hole and takes it all the way into the endzone for what should be a game-clinching touchdown! 27-13 Huskies.
ReplyDelete"that was a cowboy, cold cocked, concussion" Spencer Tillman
ReplyDeleteTim Brando asked Archie Manning if Eli would play tomorrow. When Archie said he would, Brando made some sort of David Carr joke. Tillman laughed his ass off, while poor Archie sat looking confused.
ReplyDeleteJust plain awkward.
FINAL: Bloomsburg 27, East Stroudsburg 13
ReplyDeleteGo Huskies!!!!!
Be who??? BU!!!
/I did not invent that last chant.
Dinner time. I'll be right back as we creep closer to TebowMania.
ReplyDeleteThe more Oregon wins and dominates, the better that makes Boise State look.
ReplyDelete"did Tim make that up, The Quack Attack?" Bolerjack
ReplyDelete@JFein that's some fast eating.
ReplyDelete@ kt: I got it to go.
ReplyDeleteits now 16-3 Alabama
ReplyDeleteAlabama is going to give Ole Miss the dagger here.
ReplyDeletei feel asleep, and Bolerjack's "THE BALL IS OUT!" just woke me up...
ReplyDelete@kt, I've been thinking about taking a nap until Tebow time.
ReplyDeleteGood grief, everytime you think Ole Miss has nothing left, they keep coming back.
ReplyDeleteAnd seriously, CBS?? Limp Bizkit???
I will be back. I'm going to take a quick nap.
ReplyDeleteHoly hell! Just when it looked like Ole Miss was finally done after a huge interception deep in Bama territory, they recover a Bama fumble!
ReplyDelete"whats the most dangerous sport in the world: how about jumping off a cliff and flying like a bird: tomorrow on 60 Minutes!"
ReplyDelete/Captain Obvious'd
and another Tifflin FG should seal it: Alabama 22-3
ReplyDeleteMaryland @ Wake Forest now on for 1st place in ACC Atlantic
ReplyDeleteand Wake leads 7-0 on a 48-yd rushing TD
ReplyDeleteCBS clearly spending the 4th QTR pimping Tebow
ReplyDeleteand its a 22-3 Final in Oxford
its now 14-7 Wake
ReplyDeleteI feel like punching something today.
ReplyDeleteexactly what do you feel like punching, SSR?
ReplyDeleteapparently, Maryland has decided not to play any defense tonight
ReplyDeleteToronto FC needed a win to keep it's MLS playoff hopes alive. They needed to beat one of the worst teams in the league (San Jose Earthquakes).
ReplyDeleteWe once again gave up a late goal, this time with 1 minute to go and got a 1-1 draw.
We have allowed 16 goals in the last 15 minutes of games this season and we're just about mathematically eliminated.
I'm fuming today.
So uh....GO HUSKIES!
21-7 Wake...End 1
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: Are you going to be around for the live blog tomorrow or are you going to the game?
ReplyDelete@SSR that just sucks
ReplyDeleteand i'm still trying to decide if USA-Honduras is worth the $20 cover + hourly minimum
@ SSR: I know that feeling.
ReplyDelete/Eagles fan'd.
I'll be around for tomorrow's live blog.
ReplyDeleteHasselbeck is starting so we may have a chance.
and another MD punt...
ReplyDeleteDon't bother with the Honduras game. Go find a stream or something.
ReplyDeleteSomething crazy happened in the Mexico/El Salvador game.
A swarm of bees attacked the stadium and delayed play for about 8 minutes.
At halftime they showed that there were still bees in front of the El Salvadorian goal.
Crazy stuff.
its so sad its funny...28-7 Wake Forest.
ReplyDeleteso much for the road trip to the ACC Championship Game
Holy Hell! Colorado scored on Texas.
ReplyDelete50 yd FG for MD cuts the lead to 28-10
ReplyDeletewhat the Maryland defense did for Kevin Riley, it's doing for Riley Skinner...35-10 Wake
ReplyDeleteOMG! A Wake Forest punt!
ReplyDeleteOT, since this STL-LA series looks to be ending tonight, I vote we send Stockton & Brenly to Denver, posthaste
ReplyDeleteDon't even joke with JFein, like that.
ReplyDelete@ kt1000: I presume that you want me to kill you, then? ;-)
ReplyDelete@49er please, making snide comments is the only thing getting me through this Maryland game w/out me going on a "Falling Down"-esque rampage
ReplyDeleteFire Jimmy Football Now!
ReplyDeleteIf I had cancer and was going to die tomorrow, I would go on a "Falling Down"-esque rampage.
ReplyDeleteand my local CBS station is black...
ReplyDeleteits finally halftime at Winston-Salem 35-10 Wake.
ReplyDeleteany math people want to figure out this QB rating?: 14-17 243 3TD's
Danielson damn neared orgasimed when talking about Tebow.
ReplyDeleteMexico qualify for the World Cup with a 4-1 win over El Salvador.
ReplyDeleteNow the US has their chance tonight.
AND GO LSU!
7-0 Michigan
ReplyDeleteIowa QB Stanzi throws a pick six. I bet Penn State wished that would have happened in their game.
"When we come back, Timothy Tebow will be at quarterback." - Verne Lundquist
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: Damn near? You're being kind....
ReplyDeletei am going to enjoy the big dose of karma coming Urban's way tonight
ReplyDeleteWake Forest, leading 35-10, started the 2nd Half with an onside kick
ReplyDeleteColorado now ahead 14-3
ReplyDelete"My telestrator can't make circles during this big game, it must be nervous" Danielson
ReplyDelete3-0 Florida.
ReplyDeleteTD Terps! its now 35-17
ReplyDelete"Who do you like in the Oakland-New York game?"- Gary
ReplyDeleteLaughs by both guys.
"Oakland! Not!" Verne
@ 49er16: Hahahaha. Post that one at the Pammies, please.
ReplyDelete14-10 Colorado at halftime.
ReplyDeleteIowa now leads Michigan 10-7.
ReplyDeleteguys, have a good night!
ReplyDeleteword verif: brady
@ 49er16 and kt1000: You'll both hate this one for completely different reasons.
ReplyDeleteChris Pronger scored his first Flyers goal today, also his birthday.
Happy birthday, Chirs Pronger!
/Joe Beninati'd.
Tied at 3 at Death Valley.
ReplyDeleteTied game at Baton Rouge.
ReplyDeleteTebow throws a touchdown pass.
ReplyDelete10-3 Florida
ReplyDeleteThat pass reminded me of Shaun Hill. It was a floating duck.
ReplyDeleteI like Tracy wearing the hat. Sexy
ReplyDeleteI see the Cardinals were swept. Just proves my point that Tony La Russa is the most overrated manager in baseball.
ReplyDeleteTexas now leads 24 to 14.
ReplyDeleteOof. Sturgis missed a Florida field goal. Still 10-3 Florida
ReplyDeleteThat was a horrible miss.
ReplyDeleteYour not fooling anyone, Timmy.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel sorry for LSU in this game. They have beat themselves tonight.
ReplyDeleteWhoa. Georgia Tech 28, Florida State 28 with 2:50 left in the 2nd quarter.
ReplyDelete/No typo exists in that above statement.
I see Florida can't get a TD in the Red Zone, but LSU hasn't done anything on offense.
ReplyDelete@JFein, I will host the Live Blog tomorrow. I already sent a e-mail to Mookie about it.
ReplyDeleteRich Rod pulled Forcier for Denard Robinson and he led the Wolverines right down the field for the touchdown. 30-28 Iowa with 3:16 to go.
ReplyDeleteIowa played that perfectly. Let the onside kick go out of bounds and take the penaly.
ReplyDeleteRich Rod out thought himself. He should have gone with Forcier for that last drive.
ReplyDeleteUSA 3, Honduras 1. 72nd minute.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the USA is about to make their trip to South Africa official.
