Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap10 Giants 6 Astros: I want to talk about this game for two reasons. First Eli Whiteside hit his first career home run in the game at the age of 29. By the way, it was a grand slam. But I want to talk about this game for another important reason. Joe Martinez returned to the major league level for the first time since being struck in the head by a line drive. Martinez was hit by a line drive in the third game of this season. He received a concussion and facial fractures because of the injury.Martinez also picked up the victory for the Giants today. As you can tell by the video below, he's lucky to even be playing the major leagues anymore.
9 Mets 0 Diamondbacks: O.k. the injuries the Mets players have been sustaining is just getting plain ridiculous. Mets pitcher Jonathon Niese went to cover 1st base, did the splits to get the out, and ended up tearing his hamstring and is out for the season. Look on the bright side though, the Mets won.........
7 Phillies 0 Colorado: Good job, Philly. Now beat the Rockies tomorrow for the Giants can take a 1.5 game lead in the wild card standings.

4 Tigers 2 Orioles: Edwin Jackson took a shutout into the ninth inning, until he allowed a two-run home run by Adam "I'm not Pacman" Jones. Fernando Rodney came into the game and got three outs for the save. Magglio Ordonez hit only his sixth home run of the season in the game.
6 Rays 4 Red Sox: Tampa Bay swept the Red Sox in a short two game series. Jason Bartlett, Carl Crawford, Pat Burrell, and Carlos Pena all homered in the game against Boston. David Price, who was facing the Red Sox for the first time since the ALCS, went six innings allowing six hits, two runs, and five strikeouts. Boston heads to New York for an important four game series against the Yankees over the weekend.

8 Indians 1 Twins: Oof, what has happened to Francisco Lirano? He's 4-11 this season with a 6.63 ERA. Against the Indians he only lasted five innings giving up eight hits and four runs. Three different Indians hitters drove in two runs in the game.
4 Brewers 1 Dodgers: The Dodgers and Rockies both lose and the Giants win, is a good night for me. There were no post game antics by Prince Fielder after the game. Jason Schmidt didn't look as sharp giving up four runs, five hits in 3 2/3 innings of work for the Dodgers. Trevor Hoffman picked up his 25th save of the season.
