Foul Ball is your daily baseball recapCongrats to both Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice who were both took their places in the Baseball Hall of Fame over the weekend. Rickey was always one of my favorites. His play on the field carried his wacky personality. Rickey says Rickey is great. And he is right.
8 Marlins 6 Dodgers: The fish beat the Dodgers two out of three games at Chavez Ravine. Dan Uggla homered and Hanley Ramirez drove in three runs in the game for Florida. Things became interesting in the game when Dodgers reliever Jeff Weaver hit Ramirez. Then Florida reliever Burke Badenhop hit the O-Dog and was ejected along with manager Fredi Gonzalez. The best part was Badenhop's teammates high-fiving him in the dugout after being ejected.
6 Orioles 2 Red Sox: To say the John Smoltz era in Boston has been disastrous, would be an understatement. Smoltz is 1-3 with a 6.31 ERA since joining the Red Sox rotation. On Sunday Smoltz gave up nine hits, six runs, in five innings of work. He was outpitched by a 24-year-old rookie.
5 Cubs 2 Cardinals: The Cubs are in first place! O.k. so they only have a half game lead over St. Louis, but they are still in first place! Rich Harden picked up his first day victory since August of last year. Harden went six innings giving up one hit and one run. The Cubs defense played great picking up a double play and an outfield assist.

7 Yankees 5 A's: The Yankees have taken a 2 1/2 game lead over Boston in the AL East and went 9-1 on their homestand. Now the Yankees play a rough road schedule by traveling to Tampa Bay, Chicago, and Toronto before returning home to play Boston in two weeks. Derek Jeter drove in two runs and Robinson Cano drove in three runs to help the Yankees beat Oakland.
10 Twins 1 Angels: Minnesota was finally able to break the Angels 8-game winning streak. Justin Mourneu hit two homers in the game and drove in three runs. Denard Span drove in a career-high four runs. Minnesota rookie Anthony Swarzak went 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and one run.
3 Nationals 2 Padres in 10: Not only do these two teams suck, but they forced their suckiness into extra innings. Austin Kearns drove in the winning run in the tenth inning. The question has to be ask. If these two teams play each other and no one shows up, does it really count?
The Cubs are in 1st place? I didn't even know there was a game going on! Pass me another brew!

Did you hear his story today?
ReplyDeleteI heard the original call last Friday and the story today. I've had nights like he had in Wrigleyville before, usually involving Jagerbombs and Old Style.
ReplyDeleteI do want to visit Wrigley and Wrigleyville one of these years.
ReplyDeleteJagerbombs? Dude you are hardcore.
ReplyDeleteTo answer the question at the bottom of the post: no.
