Foul Ball: Pitching and Comebacks

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap

1 Mets 0 Brewers: Give it up to the Triple-A Mets. They were able to avoid the sweep against Milwaukee. So they only scored one run in the game, off of the bat of Ryan Church. They still won. The Mets lineup continued to struggled, but Mike Pelfrey saved the day for the Mets. Pelfrey went 7 2/3 innings giving up no runs and six hits. K-Rod picked up the save and immediately celebrated the victory like he just won the World Series.

1 Dodgers 0 Rockies: This was the final game the Dodgers had to play without Manny Ramirez. He is eligible to return to the Dodgers on Friday night. In this game the Dodgers received an excellent pitching performance from Clayton Kershaw. Also three LA relievers pitched well in relief. Rafael Furcal drove in the only run of the game in the eighth inning.

6 Red Sox 5 Orioles in 11: After being humiliated on Tuesday night, the Red Sox made their own comeback on Wednesday afternoon. Kevin Youkilis hit a two-run home run and Rocco Baldeli drove in two runs in the ninth inning to tie the game. Then in the eleventh inning Julio Lugo drove in the winning run.

5 Blue Jays 0 Rays: How did the Blue Jays help celebrate Canada Day? By shutting out the Rays and by wearing some hideous uniforms. Three Blue Jays players homered in the game while Ricky Romero pitched four-hit ball. Romero went eight innings giving up no runs and striking out seven. Boy are these uniforms bad though.

2 Cardinals 1 Giants in 10: It just wasn't the Giants night. Adam Wainwright went nine innings giving up one run and six hits for the Cardinals. Bengie Molina was able to tie the game in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly. Then Cody Rasmus hit a game-winning home run in the tenth inning.

11 Braves 1 Phillies: I thought the Braves couldn't score runs? They exploded for 11 runs and 14 hits. Diory Hernandez and Matt Diaz each homered for the Braves in the game. Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels lasted four innings giving up nine hits and seven runs. Not everything is bad for Hamels though, he's about to become a father.

5 A's 1 Tigers: Jack Cust and Jason Giambi homered and the tattoo'd one Dallas Braden picked up the win for the A's. Braden went seven innings giving up five hits, one run, and three strikeouts. Justin Verlander picked up the loss for Detroit.

  1. He missed the ball badly there.

  2. The Tigers are in a world of trouble. They left on an important road trip riding a 7 game winning streak into Houston & Oakland and lost 4 of 6. Now, their own personal House of Horrors is the next stop. Detroit needs to make a trade before the deadline (preferably for a bat or a 4th starter), but they probably won't.
