Faber lost the belt last year to Brown when he was knocked out. Brown has a height and weight advantage over Faber coming into the fight. But Faber had the home town crowd.
Faber was raised in Lincoln, California which is about 30 miles away from Sacramento. He attended college at nearby UC Davis and he still trains in the area. He is incredibly popular in the area to say the least. But would that matter? First let's take a look at the undercard.
Jens Pulver vs. Josh Grispi(W)- Pulver attempted a body kick early but Grispi responded. Pulver then attempted a take down only to land in a deep-arm guillotine. From there Pulver was forced to tap out. The 20-year-old Grispi won the fight in the first round.
After the fight, Pulver addressed the crowd and talked about retirement. Pulver is 33-years old and has now lost four straight fights and five out of his last six. It might be time for Pulver to retire. And if he does retire, he will retire as one of the most important fighters in MMA history. You can never underestimate that. If you need more proof, then read this article.

James Krause vs. Donald Cerrone(W) - Krause came into this fight as a takedown specialist, but he wasn't prepared for the standup game of Cerrone. "The Cowboy" nailed Krause with a left and right flooring him, then Cerrone forced Krause to tap out with a rear-naked choke.
Scott Jorgensen vs. Antonio Banuelos(W)- This fight actually went the distance and was decided by the judges scorecards. Banuelos won by split decision, but this fight really could have gone either way. This was a really great fight with some great action. If you are not a MMA fan, check out this fight and you might have a change of heart.
Jose Aldo(W) vs. Cub Swanson- I don't even know how to describe this fight. Aldo won the fight nine seconds into the contest. Aldo came straight out with a flying knee hitting Cub on his eye. Aldo threw a couple more punches and the ref called the fight after nine seconds.
Rolando Perez vs. Seth Dikun(W)- Pretty much the theme of the night in Sacramento. Dikun locks Perez in a choke early and eventually forces Perez to tap. The fight barely lasted round one.
Mike Campbell vs. Anthony Pettis(W)- To continue with the theme of the night, Pettis locks in a guillotine chock and forces his opponent to tap out.
Mike Brown, Featherweight Champion(W) vs. Urijah Faber- Mike Brown showed off his size advantage in this fight by controlling the ground game. Every time Faber tried to control Brown on the ground, the champion passed guard.
Also during the 1st round of the fight, Faber broke his right hand. From there on out, Faber was forced to use his elbows. I truly believe if Faber didn't break his hand, he would have won this fight. Faber had Brown in a couple of chokes but couldn't lock them in because of his hand. Faber also punished Brown with his standup game, but it didn't matter Brown won by Unanimous decision. And the pro-Faber crowd knew Brown had won, because the majority of the crowd started to leave early.
After the fight, Faber was holding his right hand in obvious pain. It's not known yet if Faber needs surgery, but he could be out for a while. Brown has definitely taken control of the WEC Featherweight division. Aldo might be the next challenger to Brown, but one thing is for sure the WEC is at a crossroads because of Faber losing again to Brown. Faber is the most popular fighter in the WEC and with him not holding a belt could be a bad thing for this company.
Great card all the round though in Sacramento. We saw quick finishes and exciting fights going the distance.
Oh, and there were several fights breaking out in the Arco Arena crowd. Stay classy, Sacramento.
