Foul Ball: Mt. Ozzie Erupts

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap

5 Tigers 4 White Sox: My manager to follow in the majors, Ozzie Guillen, was sure to blow after this game. An costly ninth inning error and an infield hit and a Brandon Inge single gave the Tigers the one-run win over the White Sox.

Mt. Ozzie Quote: From the AP, I told he erupted after the game. Check out this long quote from Ozzie talking about his team's performance from behind the plate.
”If this was the 1980s, (none) of these guys would be in the big leagues right now, because if you hit .210-.230 and you can’t execute, I don’t think you should be out here,” Guillen said. When you can’t bunt, hit-and-run, squeeze and move the guy over, you better hit 40 home runs and drive in 140.”
He goes on to throw someone under the bus, but didn't name any names.

“Somebody has to change because if we don’t do what we’re supposed to do, I’ll take the blame because that’s my job,” Guillen said. In the meanwhile, if anyone watched from the first day of the season to right now, I will look myself in the mirror and figure out who’s fault it is. We’re not doing it. We got excited here and there. After that, it was a boring game. Really, really, really bad baseball games. Terrible the way the guys played the game.”
5 Rockies 2 Cardinals: What has gotten into Colorado? They went to St. Louis and swept all four games from the Cardinals. Jason Marquis pitched in 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs for the Rockies. Troy Tulowitzki homered in the sixth inning to give Colorado a 4-1 lead which would be enough for the win.

6 White Sox 1 Tigers: Jose Conteras actually only allowed one hit in his first start since April. I guess the White Sox responded to Ozzie's criticism.

5 Yankees 3 Rays: I know Yankee fans love their new stadium, but this is just getting ridiculous. Yesterday, Johnny Damon hit a ball that he even thought was a pop-up. And sure thing, it landed about eight rows up for a home run. Coors Field East has struck again. Rays pitcher Andy Sonnanstine allowed four runs and all of them were solo home runs.

6 Blue Jays 3 Rangers: Rod Barajas saved this the game for the Jays. His rundown of Marlon Bryd in the sixth inning proved to be crucial. Adam Lind homered twice and drove in four runs for the Jays. Casey Jansen picked up the win.

4 A's 3 Twins: The Oakland A's have finally started to put the pieces together. Their young pitching staff is getting better by the game and their powerful lineup has finally found pop in their bats. Jack Cust hit the go-ahead home run for the A's. Oakland has now won seven straight and are only 6.5 games behind first place.

4 Marlins 0 Giants: A 300 game winner was out pitched by a player who didn't have one win. But Randy Johnson was out pitched by Marlins player Sean West, who even flirted with a no-hitter. This was the first game in a week for the Giants, which wasn't delayed because of rain.
