Foul Ball: Here Comes the Giants, Lidge Returns, Joe Mauer is My Hero

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap

7 Giants 0 Brewers: Brian Wilson didn't have to worry about blowing a save in this game. Because the Giants actually held the Brewers scoreless with only four hits in the game. Some guy named Ryan Sadowski made his major league debut shutting out the Brewers in six strong innings. Nate Schierholtz continues to shine for the Giants going 4 for 5 with a home run and an RBI. Also 2nd baseman Matt Downs hit his first career home run for the Giants. Right now the Giants have the second best record in the NL and are leading the Wild Card standings by 0.5 games.

5 Phillies 4 Blue Jays: Old man Jamie Moyer has now won back-to-back games for the first time in more than two months. Chase Utley's two-run triple in the fourth inning would prove to be the game winning hit. The Phillies bullpen pitched four innings of scoreless relief, including the return of Brad Lidge. Lidge pitched walked and allowed a hit in the ninth inning, but held on for the save.

3 Royals 2 Pirates: Zach Greinke picked up his 10th win of the season as the Royals beat the Pirates. Greinke went 6 1/3 innings giving up seven hits, two runs, no walks, and three strikeouts. David DeJesus homered and drove in another run for the Royals.

2 Braves 1 Red Sox: Tommy Hanson pitched brilliantly for the Braves against Boston. Hanson went six innings giving up two hits, no runs, and two strikeouts. Chipper Jones went Emilio in the game, committing his 13th error of the season. Chipper redeemed himself though by hitting a home run off of Brad Penny. Garrett Anderson also homered in the game for Atlanta.

6 White Sox 0 Cubs: Carlos Zambrano stunk up the place for the Cubs against their cross-town rival White Sox. Zambrano went five 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs. But at least the water cooler was safe. Alexi Ramirez hit a two-run home run off of Zambrano in the third inning. Jon Danks went 7 innings giving up four hits and no runs for the White Sox.

6 Twins 2 Cardinals: Two good things happened for the Twins in the game. They took two out of three games from St. Louis and Albert Pujols didn't homered. Justin Morneau on the other hand did homer for the Twins. Also Joe Mauer went 2 for 5 in the game raising his batting average to .395 for the season. You know Yankees fans are counting down the days for Mauer's free agency for they can sign him.

4 Mariners 2 Dodgers: The Dodgers lost is all you need to know. And Ichiro is still a freak with the bat. Even though Ichiro only got one hit in the game, he is still batting .372 this season. Too bad he plays in the land of rain and grunge music.

5 Rays 2 Florida: The Rays completed the sweep of Florida and now have won five straight and 7 of 10 games. They are 5 games behind Boston in the AL East and 1.5 games behind New York in the Wild Card standings. David Price went 6 1/3 innings only allowing one run for the Rays. Five different Rays hitters had an RBI in the game.
