Foul Ball: Burrell Strikes Back, Big Unit Deals

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap

6 Giants 3 A's: Randy Johnson looked like his old dominate self last night. After giving up a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Johnson didn't allow another run in seven innings. Nate Schierholtz hit a two-run home run and Aaron Rowand added another RBI in the same inning. Brian Wilson picked up his 20th save of the season. The Giants have a full one game lead over Milwaukee in the Wild Card standings. These two teams play each other this weekend.

7 Rays 1 Phillies: After being humiliated Tuesday night, the Rays came back in full force against Philadelphia. Pat Burrell beat his former team with a two-run home run and then added another RBI in the game. Rays pitcher Matt Garza went eight innings giving up three hits, one run, and struck out seven. Garza redeemed himself after not pitching well in the past couple of games.

4 Royals 3 Astros in 11: Kansas City catcher Miguel Olivo homered in the 11th inning to beat Houston. A Lance Berkman error helped the Royals tie the game in the ninth inning. Kyle Farnsworth was injured in the game. I guess that is better than trying to fight someone.

11 Mets 0 Cardinals: The Mets B team looked good last night against St. Louis. Recent call-up Nick Evans hit a two-run home run off of Cardinals pitcher Brad Thompson. Mets pitcher Fernando Nieve pitched six scoreless innings, only giving three hits in the game. The Mets did hit into four double plays in the game.

10 White Sox 7 Dodgers: Josh Fields hit two home runs for the White Sox. In total the White Sox hit six home runs last night. White Sox pitcher Gavin Floyd went six innings giving up six hits and three runs.

4 Mariners 3 Padres: If these two teams play, doesn't anyone notice? Franklin Gutierrez hit a game winning home run, his fourth home run against the Mariners.

Quote of the Night: From the AP, “We have too many good hitters to stay in a slump,” Girardi said.

No kidding Joe. Your team is consisted off a 300 million dollar payroll. I would expect your lineup to be hitting and not slumping.
