Baseball Update: Lidge to DL

The Baseball Update is a look at the happenings around MLB

Knee sprain or fragile physique? Either way Brad Lidge is headed to the DL for a sprained knee. He goes on the DL before the Phillies start a 3-game series in New York with the Mets.

Lidge hasn't looked good this season blowing six saves. Last year Lidge was a perfect 41 for 41 in save opportunities. I am just wondering if the ghost of Albert Pujols is starting to creep in the back of Lidge's mind?

One good thing that comes out of this is whether or not Ryan Madson can be a closer. He will most likely replace Lidge. This could also be a bad thing for Lidge. I remember when Armando Benitiz was the closer for the Giants. He was struggling back in 07 was also put on the DL. Brian Wilson took over the closer role and never relinquished it. This could happen between Lidge and Madson.
