Foul Ball: Toronto is Still Losing

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap

5 Indians 1 Rays: I guess the Rays haven't recovered from that 10 run blown loss from yesterday. Asdrubal Cabrera, Ryan Garko, Mark DeRosa, and Kelly Shoppach all homered for Cleveland. Carl Pavano pitched six strong innings for Cleveland giving up four hits, one run, and six strikeouts. Tampa Bay left seven men on base during the game. Could the Rays really be a one-year wonder?

Carl Pavano Quote: From the AP: “I’m feeling better, getting deeper in games,” Pavano said. “I didn’t exactly know what to expect this year, but I worked hard and stayed positive. There’s still a long way to go for me to be remotely settled in.” At least he is pitching better in Cleveland than New York.

7 Orioles 2 Blue Jays: Toronto lost again, that's eight in a row. Only 10,000 fans showed up to Camden Yards to watch Aubry Huff, Adam Jones, and Nolen Reimold homer for Baltimore. Jason Berken won his major-league debut for the Orioles. The Blue Jays have gone seven games without a home run. That's San Francisco bad! Also some positive news for Balimore fans, much talked about catching prospect Matt Wieters will make his debut Friday for the Orioles.

5 Twins 2 Red Sox: Remember what I said yesterday about the Red Sox rotation? Well this time Jon Lester let the team down. He allowed five runs in the fifth inning, including a three-run home run to Justin Morneau. Nick Blackburn pitched seven strong innings striking out a career high seven for the Twins. Joe Mauer failed to get a hit in the game, which is a rarity because he has at least one hit in 20 games he has played in this season.

6 Diamondbacks 5 Padres: The Padres 10 game winning streak is finally over! But they were almost handed this game in the ninth inning. Jose Gutierrez had to come into the game to pick up the crucial save for Arizona.

4 Giants 0 Braves: Tim Lincecum pitched eight innings giving up five hits, no runs, and striking out eight to pick up the victory. The Giants did what they do best and scored all their runs in one inning and then didn't score for the rest of the game. They are now 15-8 at home. Boy do I wish they could play all of their games at home ;-)

Quote of the Night: From the AP, Charlie Manuel talking about the fragile confidence of closer Brad Lidge, “That was big,” Manuel said. “He needs some outings where he gets people out.” He is definitely not the same guy as he was last year. But last year was a once in a lifetime type of year for any closer.

  1. Joe Blanton has that type of effect on players. Sigh
