Foul Ball: The Return

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap

It's been a while since I have done one of these, but here we go.

8 Giants 2 Braves: Yes! The Giants actually scored more than 3 runs. And look at what happens when they do. Travis Ishikawa finally had a career day going 4-for-4 with a 3-run home run for the Giants. Jonathon Sanchez finally had control over his pitches and went five innings giving up four hits and two runs. This was Sanchez's first win since early April.

Bobby Cox Quote: From the AP: “We had them and we didn’t deliver,” Cox said. This was the first impressive win by the Giants in over two weeks. They held onto a lead, then cushioned it with more runs.

5 Marlins 3 Phillies: Wes Helms of Florida had himself a game against Philadelphia. Helms homered and drove in four runs. The usual boo's from the Philadelphia crowd helped Helms get going. Of course though, he wouldn't have heard them if he would have produced when he was in Philadelphia. Jamie Moyer picked up the loss and keeps looking older and older.

Wes Helms Quote: From the AP: “It doesn’t bother me,” Helms said. “It actually drives me to try even harder to do well.” Sure Wes, we all know you cried yourself to sleep last night.

13 Tigers 1 Royals: The Tigers keep winning and Justin Verlander keeps pitching spectacularly. Verlander pitched seven shutout innings, striking out eight batters. The Tigers had a season high 19 hits in the game. The Royals are fading fast.

1 Brewers 0 Cardinals in 10: The Brewers have won 11 out of the last 12 games against the Cardinals. This game went into extra innings though. Bill Hall's two-out single in the 10th inning gave the Brewers the victory. Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter took a perfect game into the seventh inning while Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo took a no-hitter into sixth inning. In the end both pitchers allowed two hits in the game.

Video of the Day: I think this new song might replace the Paulus song.
