Foul Ball: The Return of Dontrelle

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap

4 Tigers 0 Rangers: Dontrelle Willis has finally won a game. It's only been 20 months. Willis looked like his old self, allowing only one hit and no runs in seven innings of work. Willis as put on the DL with anxiety(the same thing Greinke had) and he seems to be finally over it. The Tigers went San Francisco Giants and scored three runs on sacrifice flys. Jim Leyland doesn't have to burn so many heaters now.

Jim Leyland Quote: From the AP: “He was tremendous,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. “Hopefully we can build on that.” He was talking about the return of Dontrelle.

8 Pirates 5 Natinals in 10: The Natinals can't catch a break. Which is code for their bullpen sucks. Tied at five runs going into the tenth inning, Natinals reliever Joe Biemel (not Biden) gave up three runs. Adam LaRoche hit a two-run double in the tenth inning to give the Pirates their fourth straight win. Ryan Zimmerman has reached base in 37 straight games. At least the Natinals have a bright spot.

4 Phillies 3 Reds: Cincinnati continues to struggle as Philadelphia has won five in a row. Ryan Howard hit a solo home run and Jimmy Rollins doubled and scored in a three-run fifth inning for the Phillies. Cole Hamels went six strong innings giving up five hits and three runs. Philadelphia won the game by only stranding four base runners. Are you paying attention Giants.

Cole Hamels Quote: From the AP: “It’s kind of a special place, kind of where everything started for me,” said Hamels, who is 3-0 at Great American. “I want to make an impact every time I come here. I know they probably don’t want to see that, but that’s kind of my goal.” I wonder how Hamels women is doing?

4 Brewers 2 Astros: Milwaukee has won seven straight and are now 2.5 games ahead of Chicago in first place. J.J. Hardy drove in two runs and Prince Fielder drove in another run as Dave Bush picked up the victory for Milwaukee. Trevor Hoffman picked up his tenth save of the season. Kaz Matsui stole home for the Astros. When did this trend start? That is the third time this season.

6 Royals 5 Indians: Kansas City won this game because Kerry Wood sucks as a reliever. At least he isn't injured, right? Anyways Woods gave up four runs in the ninth inning to blow the save and lose the game. He gave up back-to-back home runs to Mike Jacobs and Mark Teahen. Batspit crazy Kyle Farnsworth picked up the victory for Kansas City.

This is one of my favorite tribute videos of all-time. Go Kyle Farnsworth!

2 Red Sox 1 Blue Jays: Old man Tim Wakefield continues to shut down teams with his knuckleball. Toronto hit popup after popup against the old man. Wakefield went five innings giving up one run and five hits. This dissapearing act known as David Ortiz went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts. Think he misses Manny much? Or are the steroids wearing off?

4 A's 1 Rays in 11: Joe Madden didn't screw up his lineup card but he did witness his reliever Joe Nelson give up a three-run home run in the bottom of the nineth inning. Matt Holliday hit the clutch home run as the A's finally won a game after losing four straight. Rays catcher Dioner Navarro missed the game because of Pinkeye! I though you only got that in middle school?
