Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap
Ryan Zimmerman's hit streak is over at 30 games, but the Nationals beat the Giants. Let's move on, shall we.
Oh yeah, Brooks Robinson conquered cancer. Good for you, Brooks. Now on to the games.
8 Braves 7 Mets in 12: Another Mets-Braves game, another extra innings game. No streaker in this game though, sigh. Mike Gonzalez couldn't hold the lead for the Braves last night, but he preserved their lead in this game. Martin Prado homered in the top of the 12th, to give the Braves the win. The Mets once again shot themselves in the foot by grounding into four double plays.
Bobby Cox Quote: From the AP: “I’m glad that game is over,” Atlanta manager Bobby Cox said. “I think both teams were out of pitchers, position players and just about everything else.” Welcome to the Giants world, Bobby.
4 Indians 0 White Sox: Both Ryan Garko and Victor Martinez hit home runs for the Indians, and Cliff Lee looked like his old Cy Young self. Lee pitched seven scoreless innings, outpiching Chicago ace Mark Buerhle. Good news for the Indians, Travis Hafner is expected to come off the DL soon. The Indians took two out of three games from Chicago. I guess Eric Wedge has saved his job for now. We also had an Ozzie explosion.

Ozzie Gueillen Quote: “I just told the guy the pitch was low at the knees,” Guillen said. “I didn’t like the way he was calling strikes and balls. It was kind of weird. I wasn’t even adamant about my players. I was adamant about both sides. I think he was a little inconsistent behind the plate.” Sure Ozzie.
5 Pirates 2 Cardinals: Pirates hitter Adam LoRoche became the first player in baseball history to have a home run taken away via replay. It didn't matter as the last place Pirates were able to beat the first place Cardinals. Pirates pitcher Ryan Ohlendorf went six innings giving up two hits and one run. Colby Rasmus of the Cardinals was picked off at first place by Ohlendorf.
15 Astros 11 Rockies: Well now, we haven't seen a game like this at Coors Field in a long time. Here is the stat line: Houston, 15 runs, 24 hits, and 12 LOB/Colorado, 11 runs, 12, hits, and 6 LOB. In total nine pitchers were used and the game barely lasted over three hours. Also there was only two home runs hit. So we can't really blame Coors Field for this mess, but we can blame the horrible pitching.

Lance Berkman Quote: From the AP: “I think they must have turned off the humidor or something,” Berkman said. “Maybe it was the atmospherics because that’s how it used to be here. Balls were flying around or falling in everywhere.” No kidding, even Big Puma himself went 4-for-4 after he was struggling.
6 Rangers 5 Mariners in 11: It took a Hank Blalock two-run double for the Rangers to beat the Mariners. Of course the majority of the runs in the game, came off home runs. In total 4 home runs were hit at the Bandbox of Arlington. Also Texas is lucky to win this game, because they left 11 men on base. Better to be lucky, than good?
10 Reds 3 Diamondbacks: The Reds have a terrific road record, so it should come to no surprise that the Reds swept the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Johnny Cueto picked up the win for Cincinnati.

The AL Central: I guess no one wants to win this division. Detroit has lost two straight to Minnesota and Kansas City has lost five straight, but these two teams still lead the division. Hell the Indians are in last place, but they are only 5.5 games out of first. The AL Central and the NL West are the two worst divisions in baseball right now.
Update!, Via RJBO: That Tigers-Twins game had everything: an umpire pushing Maggs, a Leyland ejection, both bullpens melting down (especially Brandon Detroit Lyon), a walk-off Grand Slam in the 13th Inning. Everything except quality pitching.
I'll still stand by my earlier prediction that the AL Central champ will have 83 wins.
Video of the Night: Two fans in Toronto dressed up like umpires and sat behind home plate. Hilarity ensues.
