4 Padres 3 Diamondbacks in 10: David Eckstein drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning to give San Diego the win. This was the second game out of three that the Padres have played in extra innings.
David Eckstein Quote: From the AP: "This club has showed a lot of heart, especially in the tough times that we’ve been going through. We’ve just got to keep pushing forward.” Eckstein may have a lot of heart, but the rest of the Padres?
5 Orioles 4 Twins: Lou Montanez RBI single in the eighth inning would prove to be the winning run for Baltimore. Both Melvin Mora and Aubrey Huff homered in the game for Baltimore. George Sherrill picked up his fifth save in seven chances. Brad Bergesen started the game for the Orioles and gave up 11 hits. Luckily for him though, the Twins grounded into two double plays. Also Justin Morneau and Josh Kubel each stranded five base runners.
13 Red Sox 3 Indians: Thankfully the Red Sox can rely on knuckleballer Tim Wakefield. Tim went six strong innings giving up four hits and two runs. He's been their best starting pitcher of the year. Not bad for an old man.
Eric Wedge Quote: From the AP: “It’s a good day with (knuckleballer) Wakefield. It’s right in the middle of a 17-day stretch” Wedge was talking about his decision to rest Grady Sizemore for the day. Bad idea though against Boston.
6 White Sox 0 Tigers: Mark Buehrle pitched into the the seventh inning without giving up a hit. Buehrle pitched eight innings giving up no runs, one hit, and five strikeouts. Oh yeah, he likes to pitch fast.
11 Nationals 9 Dodgers: First game without OctoManny(Credit goes to James Craven for the name) didn't go so well for the Dodgers. They allowed the worst team in baseball to come back from six runs down to beat them. The Nationals alone scored six runs in the eighth inning to beat the Dodgers. The one problem in the game was poor Joe Torre having to clean up the OctoManny mess before the game.
8 Rays 6 Yankees: The Yankees have lost six straight. And the Dodgers lost a lead to the Nationals. And the Giants won. This is going to be a great mourning.
