Baseball Update: Philly Fans Need to Start Booing Again!

The Baseball Update is a look at the happenings around Major League Baseball

Philadelphia fans watch the Phillies win one little World Series and now they have gone soft on us? Where is the city that booed Santa Claus? Where is the city that cheered when Michael Irvin laid on the Veteran Stadium carpet, looking like he will never walk again? What happened to the city that riots no matter if their team wins or loses? Well Phillies manager Charlie Manuel has had enough of it and wants Phillies fans to start booing again.

Manuel who has seen his team struggle at home, is actually condoning the Philly fans to start booing again. The grace period is over!

"I notice sometimes if fans are near our dugout and talking to our players, they always want to talk about last year, and that's good; I want them to keep coming to the games," Manuel said. "But I want the fans to start telling them they want to win this year, too. Of course they love us and everything, but maybe they should get on them a little bit."
The Phillies do have the third worst home record in the Majors. Only the last-place Rockies and Nationals have worst home records. On the other hand though, the Phillies have a major-league best road record.

It's funny how things work out. Some teams like the Phillies can win on the road, but struggle at home. While the Giants struggle on the road, but can beat virtually anyone at home. I guess that is how things work out.

Until then, RIOT Philly!

Manuel: Fans should boo (The Reporter)

  1. And the funny thing is is that the Phillies were the team that went unbeated at home during the playoffs, so this turnaround is rather bizarre.

A general consensus is that the Phillies are trying too hard and are trying to be too cute at home instead of just playing baseball like they do on the road.

Obviously I'm biased here, but if they can pull everything together, this the Phillies have a darn good chance of repeating as champs.
