Baseball Update: More Family Guy

The Baseball Update is a look at the happenings around Major League Baseball

This division beyond sucks. It is NL West bad. Only two teams in the AL Central have a record above .500(Detroit & Kansas City). And both of those teams couldn't win a road game to save their lives. No joke, not a single team in this division has a winning road record. So yeah this division is bad.

Time to cue up Family Guy again!

Team of the Week: The Detroit Tigers took advantage of week opponents and a home stand to take control of the AL Central. They swept the pitiful Oakland A's over the weekend while the rest of the teams in the division slumped. So I give them credit for taking advantage of the situation, but if you believe this team can go deep in the playoffs then you are crazy.

Worst team of the Week: The Chicago White Sox completely imploded over the weekend being swept by the Toronto Blue Jays. Here's the thing, they never caught a break in Toronto. Every game they lost was by a close margin. Their pitching staff hasn't helped with their team ERA of 4.65. Also their lineup is only hitting .245. I wonder how much longer Ozzie is going to last? I realize Chicago made the playoffs last year, but this year has been a complete waste so far. I guess they should feel lucky that they are playing in the AL Central.

Even Worse team of the Week: If you thought the White Sox had a bad weekend, what about the Minnesota Twins? They lost three straight games to the Yankees off of walk-offs. While their lineup has been doing their job, the pitching staff has been awful. Their team ERA is 5.23 and have given up 55 home runs this year. The return of Francisco Liriano hasn't been what the Twins expected. Liriano has gone 2-4 with a 5.21 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Goes to show you what type of impact losing Johan Santana has had on their pitching staff.

Fire sale?: There has been rumors circulating that the Cleveland Indians could be looking to move a lot of talent off of their roster. Mark DeRosa has been linked to trades to both San Francisco and New York Mets. Also the Indians may want to move Carl Pavano. They have said they are not interested in moving Cliff Lee, but never say never with the Indians.

The Indians I think will move DeRosa. He is a versatile player who can hit for power and knock in runs. I think he would be a perfect fit for the Giants(wink, wink). Pavano will be extremely difficult to move. He isn't exactly reliable on the mound and off of it.

Time for more Family Guy!
