Baseball Update: AL East

The Baseball Update is a look at the happenings around Major League Baseball.

All right, will someone please tell the Toronto Blue Jays to go back to where they belong. They are screwing everything up. The AL East is suppose to be about the Yankees and Red Sox, everyday, every week, and every year. Major League Baseball doesn't appreciate them trying to ruin the ratings.

At least tell them that they have this year, like the Rays had last year, to make a run. Then they will be forced, to return back to the bottom of the AL East. Or else!

Another Slow Start: The New York Yankees have become known for their slow starts to a baseball year. Last year it bit them in the ass, because they didn't make the playoffs. This year they are off to another slow start and are already 5.5 games behind first place. Even worse, is their record against division opponents, 6-12. It hasn't helped that their star free agent signee Mark Texeira is in a slump to start the year. I wonder what his wife thinks of the start? Ah, she is happy to be shopping on Madison Avenue.

The Yankees could not afford this slow start. With all the problems they have had with their new stadium, a slow start is the last thing they could afford. I can't see Joe Girardi lasting much longer as the manager, if the Yankees keep this up.

What a mess: The Boston Red Sox have a mess on their hands concerning their starting pitchers. Tim Wakefield leads the starters with a 4.03 ERA. Both Josh Beckett and Jon Lester have 6.0 or higher ERA.

Right now the Red Sox hitters are carrying this team. All right most of the Red Sox hitters, David Ortiz still hasn't hit a home run. You do have to admit though, the Red Sox are pretty damn good to have such poor performance from their pitching staff but are only 1 game behind first place.

Dice-K Update: Dice-K is expected to be coming off the DL real soon. Dice-K had a rehab start in the minors last Sunday and everything went well. I can't wait for the Gyro Ball to return.

Improving?: Well not really, but the Rays have gone 6-4 in their last ten games. The pitching staff is still sucking up the place. No one on the Rays pitching staff has an ERA below 2.39 and that guy is a reliever.

I guess the Rays listened to Bud Selig and returned to where they belong.

Looking Ahead to the weekend:

The Rays and Indians meet up this weekend for a series of crapiness.

The Orioles and Kansas City play a four game series in Kansas City. Maybe the Royals can get back on track playing against the Orioles.

The Yankees return to the bandbox to play the Twins.

The Red Sox play the Mariners in Weather City.

The White Sox visits Toronto for a series with the Blue Jays.

Wow, skip all the AL East games this weekend. Watching an AL Central team play against anyone is like being waterboarded.
