Baseball Update: AL East

This could be a bad sign: Josh Beckett has now given up at least seven runs in his last two starts, including that embarrassment last night against the Rays. Beckett right now has an ERA at 7.22 and batters are averaging .303 against him. With Dice-K on the disabled list and Jon Lester looking less effective, the Red Sox need Beckett to show his old form. Because they can't rely on Tim Wakefield all year.

Need help?: The Toronto Blue Jays will have to make some tough decisions when it comes to their starting rotation. Roy Halliday will always be a lock, but the rest of the rotation is fighting injuries. Ricky Romero and Casey Janssen will be coming off the disabled list soon. And the Jays will have to decide whether to keep David Purcey or Brian Tallet in the rotation. Purcey has been struggling, so I would expect him to be sent down.

Prima Donna?: The latest allegations against A-Rod says that his teammates viewed him as a phony and he demanded food and his tooth brush be ready after games. Does this really surprise you? I would be more surprised if these rumors weren't true. You are talking about a guy who has signed two huge contracts. He is the guy who said watching his kids being born made him sick. This is the guy who lied to Katie Couric about steroid use. This is the guy who was supposedly dating Madonna. I would say that known of these allegations really surprise me.

A look ahead: Be prepared for another barrage of Yankees-Red Sox games. Boston makes their first trip to new Yankee Stadium and you know ESPN will be hyping this match up.
