I have never gotten why fans riot after their team wins. I can understand if the team loses. You are frustrated and angry and you want to take it out on someone or something. But winning is a whole other issue. If your team wins, why riot? Both Philadelphia and Detroit have a habit of this. Remember when the Phillies won the World Series last year? Phillies fans drilled a person on a stop light with a vodka bottle. Phillies fans celebrated into the night. They destroyed cars and flooded the streets. And now East Lansing, Michigan has countered Philadelphia.
"More than 20 people were arrested Saturday for offences that included starting fires, disorderly conduct and indecent exposure as Michigan State defeated Connecticut 82-73 at the Final Four."That's always a good idea. Hey we won, lets start a fire. And have the people of E. Lansing forgot that Michigan St. hasn't even won the National Championship yet.
I will never understand why people riot for championship celebrations? But it is their city and they can destroy it if they want to.

ReplyDeleteI just read about six different versions of the AP story and the arrests for attempted arson were in East Lansing, who has as checkered an incendiary reputation as the city Spartans fans enveloped last night.
ReplyDeletePhilly motto, Keith: When we win, we riot and when we lose, we riot!
ReplyDeleteAnd if memory serves me correctly, I believe that Boston fans do nothing short of throwing another tea party whenever their team wins a championship.
I was being sarcastic.
ReplyDeleteBelive me, if the Gianst ever won the World Series, I will be right there rioting.
Sorry RJBO, I need to do read these stories a little closer. They did riot in E. Lansing and not in Detroit.
ReplyDeleteSorry
No need to apologize, Keith. I was just pointing it out. Trust me, if the Spartans win tomorrow, there maybe a conflagration* or two (hundred) in Detroit to celebrate or keep warm.
ReplyDelete*I'm using the same Word-A-Day calendar Nantz did yesterday--"conviviality?"
