Foul Ball: Rain and C.C. Goes Bye-Bye

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap.

Rays @ Red Sox: Postponed, Rain

Royals @ White Sox: Postponed, Rain

2 Mets 1 Reds: Daniel Murphy had himself a memorable big league opener. He drove in both Mets runs with a home run and a groundout. Johan Santana went 5 2-3 innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 7. The Mets improved bullpen preserved the Mets win allowing new Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez to pick up the save.

9 Texas 1 Indians: The reigning AL Cy Young award winner Cliff Lee was hammered by the Rangers on opening day. Lee pitch in 5 innings allowing 7 runs and 10 hits while only striking out 5. Meanwhile Rangers pitcher Kevin Milwood went 7 innings allowing only 1 run and 5 hits and striking out 5. Hank Blalock and Jarrod Saltalamacchia both homered for the Rangers.

9 Diamondbacks 8 Rockies: Arizona and Colorado played a game of home run derby. Diamondbacks players Tony Clark and Felipe Lopez both hit home runs from both sides of the plate. In total their were eight home runs hit in the day. Chad Tracy hit the decisive home run in the 7Th inning off of Rockies reliever Jason Grilli.

10 Orioles 5 Yankees: C.C. Sabathia had himself a nice opening day. He allowed six runs and failed to get out of fifth inning in his first start in pinstripes. Yankees fans start hating Sabathia in 3...2...1

12 Marlins 6 Nationals: Emili Bonifacio of the Marlins hit the first inside-the-park home run on opening day since 1968 in another home run derby type of game. In total four home runs were hit including a grand slam by Hanley Ramirez.

6 Pirates 4 Cardinals: With the Pirates down to their last strike, Jack Wilson hit a three-run double to cap a four-run Pirates comeback. Ryan Ludwick of the Cardinals broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning only to see Jason Motte blow his first save opportunity of the season.

4 Cubs 2 Astros: Carlos Zambrano pitch seven innings allowing just one run. Meanwhile his counterpart Roy Oswalt allowed three runs in seven innings. Alfonso Soriano hit his 50Th career leadoff home run.

12 Blue Jays 5 Tigers: Adam Lind had himself a day for the Blue Jays. He had a career high six RBI's. Detroit starter Justin Verlander allowed a career worst eight runs in 3 2-3 innings. It's nice to see Cito Gasten managing again, though.

6 Mariners 1 Twins: Ken Griffey Jr. hit his first home run back in the Mariners uniform. Felix Hernandez picked up the win for the Mariners.

4 Dodgers 1 Padres: What a bad day for former Cy Young winners. And add Jake Peavy to the list. He allowed 4 runs in seven innings. He was though given no run support by leaving 7 runners on base.

3 Angels 0 A's: Well I guess the A's new lineup was no match for Joe Saunders. Saunders pitched 6 2-3 innings only allowing three hits and no runs. This was suppose to be the year the A's compete with the Angels. Well I guess not.
