I would like to once again send out my condolences to the Kalas and Fidrych families for their losses.
9 Phillies 8 Nationals: The Phillies mourned the loss of Harry Kalas by beating Washington. The Nationals remain the only winless team in the Majors with an 0-7 record. Ryan Howard, Raul Ibanez, and Shane Victorino each homered in the game for the Phillies. Also the Nationals helped the Phillies by committing three errors which contributed to three unearned runs. There was one play in particular that had me rolling over in laughter. Ryan Howard hit a slow grounder between the 1St baseman and 2Nd baseman. Both men lunged for the ball and it went in between their gloves which would score a run. Both men looked at each other with puzzling looks. One of the funniest moments of the young season.
7 Pirates 0 Astros: Zach Duke pitched a 4-hit shutout against the lowly Astros. Duke only allowed six Astro baserunners all game, which is encouraging to the Pirates fans who last year saw Duke only win two games by June. Freddy Sanchez had three doubles for the Pirates. Also Adam LaRoche also had three hits as the Pirates won their first home opener since 2004.
10 White Sox 6 Tigers: Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko hit their 300th career home runs back-to-back in the second inning to give the White Sox the victory. Carlos Quentin went 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI's. The White Sox in total had 16 hits for the game. I bet Tigers manager Jim Leyland was burning some heaters after this game.
Worst of the Night:
- The Nationals committed three errors which lead to three runs.
- The Giants allowed Dodgers infielder Orlando Hudson to hit for the cycle in their loss. I hate it when the Giants lose to the Dodgers.
- Colorado Rockies offense belongs in this category. The team only managed one hit against the Cubs and were only able to get 5 men on base. I guess that Billy Goat hanging on Harry Caray's statue didn't scare Ted Lilly.- Chien-Ming Wang of the Yankees hasn't had the best season so far. And yesterday was no better. The Rays rocked Wang for eight runs in one inning. His ERA is 28.93.
- The Ballpark of Arlington gets a nod. Baseball's are flying out of that place like Coors Field. Even Andruw Jones had a home run.Quote of the Night: "I know Harry. I know Harry would want us to play," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "It's just a sad day." R.I.P. Harry Kalas
Video of the Night: The Yankees were losing so bad to the Rays, they had Nick Swisher pitching and Jorque Posada playing first base.
