4 Rays 3 Red Sox: The Rays hit three home runs off of Dice-K to take the series from the Red Sox. Evan Longoria had three hits including a two-run home run. Matt Garza picked up the win for the Ray by going seven innings allowing four hits and one run.
2 Royals 1 White Sox: Coco Crisp hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to break a scoreless tie and give Kansas City the win. White Sox closer Bobby Jenks gave up the home run to Crisp. The Royals took two games in their three-game series with the AL Central champions. Royals starter Kyle Davies struck out eight in seven innings. Now the Royals get to head home and play in their renovated stadium.
12 Rangers 8 Indians: It was once again home run derby in Texas, as the Rangers swept the Indians. The teams combined for seven home runs, including two by Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore. Former Yankees pitcher and frequent disabled list visitor Carl Pavano pitched one inning giving up 6 hits, 9 runs, and 3 walks. Hey even Andruw Jones played well for the Rangers.
2 Cardinals 1 Pirates: After a couple of injury plagued years, Chris Carpenter looked like his old self today for St. Louis. Carpenter took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and he combined with two Cardinals relievers to one-hit the Pirates. All of St. Louis just has to be celebrating a great appearance by their ace pitcher.
4 Padres 3 Dodgers: Adrian Gonzalez's solo home run started an a three-run rally for the Padres in the eighth inning which spring boarded the Padres to the win. The Padres split the four-game series with the Dodgers.
Worst of the Night
- White Sox closer gave up an game winning home run to Coco Crisp.
- The Dodgers offense stranded 11 baserunners.
- The Tigers offense stranded 11 baserunners and struck out nine times in their loss to Toronto.
- The Twins offense stranded 14 baserunners in their shutout loss to Seattle.
- Orioles reliever Brian Bass pitched two innings giving up 5 hits and 5 runs in Baltimore's loss to New York.
- Some things change, some things stay the same. The Mets might have fixed their bullpen, but they haven't gotten rid of that eyesore known as Oliver Perez. In his start against the Reds, Perez pitched 4 1-3 innings allowing 5 hits, 5 walks, 1 home run, and 8 runs.
- Mike Cameron of the Brewers hit a line drive that hit Giants pitcher Joe Martinez in the side of the head. Martinez was able to walk off the field, but there was a lot of blood rushing from his head.
Quote of the Day
"The mistakes really hurt him," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said.
I would say so. Dice-K did allow three home runs.
Note
The Angels, A's game was postponed due to the death of Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart. My thoughts and prayers are with the Adenhart family and to all of those who lost a loved one in that tragic traffic accident.
