Baseball Update: AL Central

The Baseball Update is a comprehensive look at the divisions in MLB.

The AL Central continues to suck. Chicago, Kansas City, and Detroit are tied for first place with an 11-10 record. And the Twins are a half of a game back. And Cleveland is bringing up the rear.

Lets take a look at the three teams that occupy the top spot in the division.

Chicago: This team is like an enigma. They either win big or lose small. They can blowout any team they want with their powerful lineup, but they can't win close games. Right now though their pitching staff should cause some concern. Their starters average ERA is 3.30. John Danks has been their best pitcher but the rest of the staff is struggling. Also their relief pitchers have been struggling. It will be interesting to see if their lineup can carry this team.

Kansas City: Zack Greinke finally allowed an earned run in the Royals win yesterday. He went 43 straight innings without allowing an earned run. In the meantime though, the Royals are good enough and the AL Central is bad enough for this team to win the division. The team though will have to raise their team batting average, which is at .247. The team will have to get solid contribution from Alex Gordon when he returns off the disabled list.

Detroit: The Tigers pitching staff is pretty much hit or miss so far this season. Both Armando Galarraga and Edwin Jackson have both pitched great the rest of the staff has been struggling. Justin Verlander is the epitomise of this. Either he strikes out hitters or he is allowing 24 runs. Also the Tigers need Rick Porcello to grow up fast. He was roughed up last night, but he has the capabilities to be a great pitcher.

Notes:

Zack Greinke finally allowed a run!

What's the future for Tigers pitchers Rick Porcello and Ryan Perry?

The Twins need Joe Mauer to get back soon.

Everything that can go wrong in Cleveland, has.

Where's Greg Paulus?

  1. David Clyde thinks the Tigers rush their pitchers to the Majors too fast.

That pic of Gomez & Cuddyer looks like they're doing the Dance of Joy.

  2. @RJBO, and if Dusty Baker was the manager of the Tigers, he would burn out their arms.
