Mythbusters Has Invaded The Sacramento Valley

Usually I don't post things that have nothing to do with sports. That isn't the purpose of this blog. But this story was just too much to pass up. And it happened in a small town that I know.

The popular show Mythbusters experiments with urban legends, myths, and movie scenes in pop culture. I have watched a couple of episodes and it is a really good show. One of my favorite episodes was when the tried to make a hovercraft out of an vacuum motor. Well the Mythbusters crew invade a small California town, rocking the small community to their roots with a huge explosion.

Esparto, a small town in the Sacramento Valley, was scared straight by an explosion.

The explosion was so big it shook the town of Esparto, knocking Stephens off her couch and breaking her front window.

"Course all the neighbors ran out into the street. We didn't know what was going on," said Paul Williams, who heard the explosion.

Some people said they thought it was a plane crash, others, a house explosion.

The smoke and dust rose from the site about a mile from town.

It turns out the Discovery channel's Mythbusters were taping an episode there.
You won't believe what they were experimenting with next.

They were trying to literally "knock the socks off" a mannequin by igniting 500 pounds of ammonium nitrate. But the explosion was a lot bigger than they expected.
How awesome is that. And since Esparto is such a small town, the police and firefighters didn't say what was happening because they didn't want a crowd around the explosion.

How cool what that be to see if you could knock the socks off a mannequin by igniting ammonium nitrate. And how did they light the ammonium nitrate? With diesel? However they did it, I will make sure to watch that episode.
