Media Fight: Orlando Sentinal's Mike Bianchi vs. Mike Thomas

Usually I leave media fights to Awful Announcing, but this one is too good. The Orlando Sentinel's Mike Bianchi called out one of his own co-workers in a blog post today.

The post is regarding the Orlando Magic's new arena deal. And Bianchi blasts his co-worker for a blog post he wrote:

"I know I commended my Sentinel colleague Mike Thomas about a column he wrote recently regarding the crumbling financial model of the NBA, but then he goes and writes something really stupid and ruins everything.

Like his recent blog in which he criticized the Magic for -- are you ready for this? -- giving preferential treatment in the new arena to the people who actually pay the most money?

I kid you not. Thomas is actually complaining because the pricier luxury seating and suites are closer to the court than the less expensive seats for the "average" fans.

"In pushing for a new arena, the Magic didn't mention this," Thomas wrote. "But by gearing the arena toward luxury seating and suites, the team has sacrificed the view of those average fans in the upper bowl. The suites are being put in closer to the floor to give corporate customers a better view, while pushing the seats above them back and up."

The reason the Magic didn't mention this is because it's understood, you big dummy. Earth to Mike, earth to Mike: The more money you spend, the more privileges you get.

It's called capitalism.

Geez, you wonder sometimes when was the last time Mike Thomas actually attented a sporting event? I can just envision Thomas writing about a football game, circa 2009: "And then the fans stood up and started doing this new thing called 'The Wave.' It was really cool!"

Seriously, is Thomas actually surprised that the more expensive seats are nearer the floor and the less expensive seats are away from the floor?"
I agree with Bianchi on this one. Has Mike Thomas ever heard of capitalism.

I realize we elected a president who wants to punish the rich, but this isn't a communist country. You pay more money for seats, you get a better view. Sponsors that spend big money for seats deserve better seats.

Good job, Mike Bianchi.
