College Basketball Thoughts

With college football ending their season it is time to move on to college basketball.

This year almost looks no different from any other season. The Big East and ACC are the two leading conferences, UCLA is leading the Pac-10, and John Calipari has Memphis once again competitive. So what else is new.

- Mike Montgomery has turned around Cal quickly. When the Bears hired Montgomery during the off season, it was hinted at that it would take Montgomery two years to turn around the Bears. How about one season. Montgomery has the Bears ranked in the AP poll and the Bears are off to their best start since 1959-1960 with a 15-2 record.

- Jeff Teague is the man at Wake Forest. When the Deamon Decans played North Carolina last Sunday, Teague scored 34 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and had four assists. The point guard is reminding a lot of people of Wake Forest grad Chris Paul. He has been vital to Wake Forest's currently undefeated season.

- North Carolina has missed their great defender Marcus Ginyard. They are still a great team without him, but they miss his presence in the defensive end of the court.

- Blake Griffin is starting to run away with the national player of the year.

- Tommy Amaker has his Harvard team playing really well. We all remember Amaker as the coach who was alleged of illegal recruiting, but since has been cleared. Well his team knocked off Boston College and then won a close match up with Dartmouth. Harvard could be the suprise mid-major team in March.

- Tom Crean and Indiana are worse than thought. When Crean took over at Indiana, no one expected Indiana could compete for a Big Ten title. But a 5-10 record and has lost six in a row including a loss to powerhouse Lipscomb. While Crean is bringing in a top ten recruiting class next year, the Hoosiers will be lucky if they win a game in the Big Ten this year.

Top 5
1. Pittsburgh, Jamie Dixon has the Panthers playing at a high level in the tough Big East.
2. Wake Forest, An undefeated record and a win over North Carolina will help you in the standings.
3. Duke, Coach K once again has Duke competitive and looking for an ACC title.
4. Connecticut, Say what you want about Jim Calhoun, but he still can recruit and coach
5. Michigan St., Do you realize that Michigan St. hasn't won the Big Ten title since 2000-2001? I think this will change this year.
