Philadelphia over Arizona, this is actually the toughest game to decipher. And I keep coming back to these factors why the Eagles will lose.
1. You just know that Donovan McNabb is going to throw one of those what-was-he-thinking type of interceptions during the game.
2. You also know that Andy Reid is going to blow one of his challenges and will need the timeout for the end of the half or game. Only Reid, Brad Childress, Mike Nolan, and Norv Turner make the worse decisions for challenges. And when they should challenge a play they keep the red flag in their back pocket. It's just a scary thought.
3. Arizona's defense has been stuffing the run during the entire playoffs. First they stop Michael Turner and Atlanta, then they stopped both Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams from Carolina(more on this later). The Eagles Brian Westbrook hasn't been that impressive during the playoffs and McNabb probably won't be able to win the game by himself.
Besides these factors, I am still going with the Eagles. They have gotten hot at the right time and are playing great on the road. And with two out of the three past super bowl winners have won all their games on the road.
Also Philadelphia has one of the best defenses in the league. And you should never like a team that takes the majority of their snaps in the shotgun formation and throws the majority of the time. The Eagles will install some type of blitz packages that will create pressure and try and get to Kurt Warner.
You should always go with the team with the better defense.
Philly 21 Arizona 17
Pittsburgh over Baltimore, this game will be the classic slug fest. Tough defenses, strong running games, and strong-willed quarterbacks.
The Steelers though have the number one ranked defense and a quarterback who has played in big games. While Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco has preformed admiraly during the playoffs, he has never faced an defense like the Steelers.
Also you have to love Willie Parker running against the Chargers last week. Before Titans running back Chris Johnson injured himself, he was shredding the Baltimore defense. And Parker is more experienced and a better runner than Johnson.
Pittsburgh 14 Baltimore 10
More Thoughts From the Past Weekend Games:
- What was Carolina doing going away from the run. They earned the second seed in the playoffs by running the ball. But by the time the Cardinals had the lead, they stopped running and depended on Jake Delhomme. And how did that work out. Not good, he threw more interceptions than Chris Berman throwing out catchphrases. You knew all the Cardinals had to do was cover Steve Smith and Delhomme would have no one else to throw to. Excellent game plan by the Cardinals defense and poor game management by Delhomme.
- Got to love McNabb picking up the phone on the Giants sideline after he picked up a first down and put the game out of the reach of the Giants. It was so random and funny at the same time. Or at least it was better than McNabb dancing on the sideline.
- Great to see Pacman Jones doing an interview with CBS's James Brown. He said that he expects to play again next year and he will probably play with the Dallas Cowboys. The stones on this guy is incredible. First he gets in another strip club altercation during his year-long suspension and then second gets cut by the Cowboys and still thinks he will be playing with them next year. Maybe it's just me, but I doubt the Cowboys or any other team will pick up this clown.
