Not exactly the hottest slate of games this week. You know how I know this? Musberger and Herbie are calling a 3:30 game and the only worthy primetime game is Vanderbilt at Northwestern on the Big Ten Network. While not the hottest slate of games, there are some worthy games to check out on Saturday for a few moments. Here's this week's must list.
September 6th (All times Eastern)
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati, 8:00 (ESPN: Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer, David Pollack, Samantha Steele) Remember the past couple of years when I complained about terrible Thursday night games? Well this game isn't exactly a barn burner. Especially since Pitt is coming off a loss to Youngstown State! Remember the good times folks when the Thursday night Big East games were exciting. Come back to us Louisville, Rutgers, and West Virginia.
September 8th
Penn State at Virginia, Noon (ABC: Mike Patrick, Ed Cunningham, George Smith) I highlight this game for one reason only, ESPN is sending George Smith to this game. You gotta love ESPN, they're going to milk that Penn State cow until it's dry. It wouldn't surprise me if Smith is actually reporting from Paterno's house while everyone else is in Virginia.
Maryland at Temple, Noon (ESPNU:) Maryland struggled to beat William & Mary. That's not a joke folks. Now Maryland has to travel to Philly to play a tough Temple team that can run the ball. I don't even think you can call it a "upset" if Temple wins this game. Just know that Temple is coached by Steve Addazio, so they could blow this.
Miami at Kansas State, Noon (FX: Justin Kutcher, Eric Crouch, Darius Walker) This is one of those games that has the potential to be all offense (watch Miami RB Duke Johnson, he's really good) but watch it turn into a defensive dogfight.
Purdue at Notre Dame, 3:30 (NBC: Tom Hammond, Mike Mayock, Alex Flanagan) Notre Dame hammered Navy last week on the "road" in Ireland. I want to check out this game to see if Notre Dame does the same because you know we'll get the predictable 50 articles "NOTRE DAME IS BACK!" garbage. You know it's coming.
Air Force at Michigan, 3:30 (ABC: Bob Wischusen, Danny Kanell, Maria Taylor) Michigan is coming off a beating and now they have to face the triple option. I'm not saying Michigan will lose this game or that this game will be close at the end, but after watching Michigan last week I'm saying don't be surprised if Air Force can run at will against the Wolverines.
Florida at Texas A&M, 3:30 (ESPN: Brent Musberger, Kirk Herbstreit, Heather Cox) Welcome to the SEC Texas A&M you get to play Florida with no warm up because your first game was canceled by a Hurricane. Luckily for the Aggies, Florida's offense stinks worse than garbage and the Gators had problems putting away Bowling Green.
Washington at LSU, 7:00 (ESPN: Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge, Holly Rowe) Nothing would make me happier than seeing Washington get their asses handed to them. Their entire coaching staff are dickheads and they need their asses kicked by the Tigers.
UTEP at Ole Miss, 7:00 (FSN: Bob Rathburn, Tim Couch, Elizabeth Moreau) UTEP gave Oklahoma a run for their money last week in El Paso. If Giggity Nutt still coached Ole Miss I have given the Miners the advantage here.
Nebraska at UCLA, 7:30 (Fox: Gus Johnson, Charles Davis, Julie Alexandria) UCLA QB Brett Hundley had one hell of a debut against Rice last week. Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez last week actually looked like a real QB passing for 354 yards. Depending on how each defense plays this game has the potential to go ham. And really with this week's slate of game hopefully it does.
Georgia at Missouri, 7:45 (ESPN2: Joe Tessitore, Matt Millen) Welcome to the SEC Missouri, you get to play a talented Georgia team. This game is in Columbia so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Georgia lost this game, because they're still coached by Mark Richt.
Vanderbilt at Northwestern, 8:00 (B1G Network: Eric Collins, Derek Rackley, Lisa Byington) Yep this is the only game on during the 8 ET/5 PT primetime game that is appealing. That's how you know this week's slate of games are weak. Thankfully the NFL is back this weekend to help the college game.
Oklahoma State at Arizona, 10:30 (P12 Network: Kevin Calabro, Glenn Parker, Ryan Nece) If you can find this channel or have a provider that carries this channel (fuck you DirecTV) than this is a game I would check on. You have Gundy's offense facing Rick Rod's offense. Should be a good game offensively.
Alcoholic Beverage of the Week, Incredible Hop: Imperial IPA: Like Ale beers, I've never been the biggest fan of IPA beers. I tried the Incredible Hop: Imperial IPA at the Cantina and I have to say I was impressed. It wasn't to bitter and didn't leave a bad aftertaste. It's definitely hoppy and has a smooth taste. I recommend this beer from Fort Collins.
Recipe of the Week, BBQ Pork Sandwiches: Over the past couple of year I've realized I like baking meat more than I like BBQ'y meat. Example is ribs. Baked ribs taste much better to me. Another favorite of mine is pulled pork out of the oven. This is a very simple meal in that all you need is pulled pork and BBQ sauce a pan and some tin foil. That's it. And you'll end up with delicious BBQ pork.
Baked ribs?? Heresy!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I jumped all over Maryland +10.5 in Philly. It looks like they have a very good defense, and Temple has 5 new OL starters. But, the less said about the Terps O the better.
Whew. I saw a comment and thought, "what did I fuck up now?".
