Foul Ball: Pitching Duels

Florida 2, Philadelphia 1: In the pitching matchup of the century, Josh Johnson and two Marlins relievers got the better of Roy Halladay on Tuesday night. Halladay didn't do a bad job pitching giving up five hits and two runs, he was simply Cain'd. Johnson and the two Marlins relievers held the Phillies to one run on six hits. Halladay walking Josh Johnson in the second inning ultimately proved costly for Halladay as the Marlins would drive him in.

San Francisco 1, Arizona 0: Another series, another day, another walkoff victory for the Giants. After walking off against the Rockies twice this past weekend in the ninth inning, the Giants once again won on a another walkoff victory in the ninth inning. This time Cody Ross drove in the winning run for the Giants.  Who knew the real pitchers dual of the night though would be Ian Kennedy vs. Tim Lincecum over Roy Halladay and Josh Johnson? Lincecum and Kennedy both gave up no runs, four hits, in eight innings of work and both picked up the no decision. Brian Wilson won his third game in the past five days.

Baltimore 7, Seattle 6, 13 Innings: Only the Mariners could blow three leads in a single game, including the lead in extra innings with two outs. Brandon League gave up a hit to Felix Pie with two outs. The Orioles would ground into a fielder's choice to move Pie to second. Matt Wieters would then single driving in Pie for the game-winning run

Toronto 7, Boston 6, 10 Innings: David Cooper hit his first career home run and drove in the winning run for the Blue Jays in the tenth inning off a sacrifice fly. Not a bad day for the rookie. The Blue Jays won this game though because of Rajai Davis' base running. Davis singled and then stole second and third to get into scoring position for the sac fly. Jose Bautista hit his eleventh home run of the year and JP Arencibia hit a home run for the Blue Jays.

Chicago 4, St. Louis 6: Amazingly Chris Carpenter picked up his first victory of the year on Tuesday night. Carpenter gave up 13 hits and four runs, but was still able to pick up the victory thanks in part to Daniel Descalso. Descalso drove in two runs with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning to give Carpenter and the Cards the victory.

Texas 7, Oakland 2: The slumping Texas offense finally broke through on Tuesday night. Adrian Beltre hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning and Michael Young drove in two runs. Colby Lewis pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up five hits and one run.

Colorado 3, New York 4: The Mets weren't useless for once in their lives.

Cleveland 5, Tampa Bay 4: The Cleveland Indians won their 14th straight home game off a walkoff walk out of all things. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Michael Brantley took ball four and the shrimp to give the Indians the victory. Whatever deal they made with the devil, I would like in on it.

Pittsburgh 3, Los Angeles 10: I hope Pittsburgh fans enjoyed that one day when their club was one game over .500 because it didn't last long. The Pirates allowed four runs in the sixth inning after only needing one more out to get out of the inning. The Dodgers would really break the game loose in the eighth with a five run inning.

It's just too bad Lincecum didn't pick up the victory last night.
