Clarett's Timeline:
-2003: Scored the game-winning in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl to help defeat Miami and win the National Championship for Ohio State. Of course this game will always be remembered for this controversial call against Miami.
- September 2003: Clarett is kicked off of the Ohio State team when he lied about a police report and then took special benefits and mislead investigators.
- 2004: Clarett sued the NFL to allow him into the league despite not being out of high school for more than three years. Clarett won his case at the local level, but the rulling was overruled by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Future Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor was actually the judge that overturned the original decision.
- 2005: In a surprise move the Denver Broncos drafted Clarett in the third round despite many experts predicting Clarett would be drafted in the sixth or seventh rounds. Not playing competitive football in two years though took a lot out Clarett and he was released by the Broncos.
- January 2006: Clarett was arrested for armed robbery. He allegedly robbed two people at gunpoint and took off in his White
- August 2006: On the day Clarett was scheduled for a hearing for his previous arrest, Clarett was arrested again. Clarett made an illegal U-turn, lead the police on a chase, and had a Katana, Ak-47 and two other loaded weapons in his car along with a Grey Goose Vodka bottle. Clarett had to be subdued by officers with mace and a taser during the arrest. Clarett pleaded guilty in a plea bargain deal.
- 2009: Clarett began taking online classes at Ohio State.
- April 2010: Clarett is released early from prison for good behavior.
- August 2010: We have finally come full circle in the strange ride known as Maurice Clarett's strange life. Clarett is hoping to receive a tryout from the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL. Clarett filed a motion with a judge for he could leave the state of Ohio to go to the tryout in Omaha. Clarett will receive a final judgment on this notion by August 30th. Meanwhile the Omaha Nighthawks will gladly give Clarett a tryout if he's able to leave Ohio.
I'm personally rooting for Clarett. He paid his debt to society and seems to have turned his life around. Isn't that what prisons are for? Paying debts to society and rehabilitate his life. Good luck to Maurice.
Here, here. Good luck to Clarett.
