Foul Ball: Sloppy Boston, Terrible Philly & Extra Innings

Seattle 2 Chicago 1, 12 Innings: Gavin Floyd and Felix Hernandez both threw shutouts and both not allowing more than five hits. Both guys would also pick up no-decisions as the game would go to extra innings. Omar Vizquel drove in a run for the White Sox in the top of the 12th inning. Bobby Jenks was going to save the game until he gave up two base hits and then eventually gave up the game-winning hit by Franklin Gutierrez. That's Jenks second blown save in a week.

Arizona 4 NY Mets 3, 14 Innings: From the sixth inning until the bottom of the 14th inning, both Arizona's and New York's bullpens threw shutout innings. Fernando Nieve of the Mets would end this streak in the 14th inning by allowing a hit and walk, then would give up the game-winning single to Chris Synder. Arizona swept the Mets, the first team they've swept since August of last year.

Baltimore 4 Tampa Bay 5: One night after a crushing defeat to the worst team in baseball, the Rays once again blew a lead to the Orioles.Since these are the Orioles though, Jason Berken walked Evan Longoria with the bases loaded in the sixth inning to provide the Rays with the game-winning run. Only the Orioles.

Oakland 6 Boston 4: The A's took advantage of a sloppy Red Sox team to take the game and the series. At the age of 32, Matt Watson hit his first career home run for the A's in the game. While very inconsistent A's pitcher Gio Gonzalez picked up the victory for the A's. Jack Cust homered and drove in two runs and Rajai Davis also drove in two runs.

Minnesota 6 Cleveland 0: The Indians finally lost! After winning three in a row including a sweep over Detroit and taking two-straight games from Minnesota, the Indians have finally lost. Francisco Liriano pitched seven scoreless innings giving up only six hits and four walks. Delmon Young drove in three runs and J.J. Hardy drove in two runs. The Twins currently sit three games behind the White Sox in the AL Central.

Detroit 4 Texas 1: Max Scherzer pitched seven scoreless innings to help the Detroit Tigers beat Texas, ending their seven-game losing streak. Gerald Laird hit a two-run home run to go along with Magglio Ordonez and Miguel Cabrera RBIs. Scherzer gave up four hits and no runs in seven innings of work and Jose Valverde walked the tight rope in the ninth but eventually picked up the save.

Cincinnati 5 Washington 8: Strasburg didn't have his greatest outing ever, 5 2/3 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts, but that was enough to defeat the Reds. The Natinals Nationals took the lead in the fifth inning off a Christian Guzman two-run homer.  Willie Harris also homered for the Nationals to go along with two RBIs from Ian Desmond.

St. Louis 5 Philadelphia 1: The Phillies have now lost four games in a row and have been out-scored by a 20-6 margin in three games against St. Louis. Meanwhile the Cardinals are heading in the opposite direction of the Phillies and have won eight straight games. The Cardinals beat the Phillies on Wednesday night behind Jamie Garcia who went seven innings giving up four hits and one run. Tomorrow the Cardinals throw Adam Wainwright at the Phillies. Can you say sweep?

  1. Awesome new lay out!

And yes, the Phillies are just a few hours away from being embarrassingly swept by the Cardinals. Charlie Manuel (and his decision to leave Cheesesteak Joe in the game too long AGAIN) deserve the blame for last night's humiliation.
