The NBA Finals haven't seen a game 7 since the 2005 season. The NBA also hasn't seen a compelling NBA Finals go seven games since the 1988 Finals. We finally have a compelling NBA Finals series go seven games. Two main themes from the game, Legacy and how will the Celitcs respond to the Kendrick Perkins injury.
Legacy is on the line between Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett/Paul Pierce/Ray Allen. Kobe can win his 5th championship and second without Shaq cementing his place along with the game's greats. Garnett/Pierce/Allen can win their second championship and cement their place in the Hall of Fame.
The other main theme will be how the Celtics play without Kendrick Perkins. Glen Big Baby Davis will start in his place, bringing more scoring and energy, but he doesn't have the size to compete with Bynum and Odom. The Celtics have had an uphill climb throughout the year and this will be their biggest challenge.
My pick, the Lakers. I've never liked teams losing game six and coming back to win game seven. There is something about winning game six and closing the series out then. Teams that lose game six seem like they never recovered. I'm going with the Lakers tonight. I hope I'm wrong.
Leave comments and don't be a troll.
Agree with you Keith. I'm rolling with the Lakers -7 tonight.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see this game come down to a last second buzzer beater.
ReplyDeleteLakers by 9 tonight.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad this is almost over, not just for the mostly non-competitive playoffs, but to also give Michael Wilbon a break from constantly slurping Magic on camera.
@RJBO: I haven't watched a minute of the pre-game or halftime shows with Wilbon and crew. I just find something else on TV to watch during that time.
ReplyDeleteHOLY SHIT PLACIDO POLANCO JUST MADE ONE OF THE CATCHES OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how Wilbon and Kornheiser are horribly miscast without the other one
ReplyDelete@JFein color me shocked you aren't watching South Africa play Uruguay right now.
ReplyDeleteThe Cs actually dressed Brian Scalabrine???
ReplyDelete@RJBO Desperate times...
ReplyDeleteStop running these BP claims ads. They're worse the the post-Katrina State Farm ads where the adjuster "brought ice for my insulin" after the Hurricane.
ReplyDeleteOh 'Sheed
ReplyDeleteJoey Crawford is on this game? Uh-oh...
ReplyDeleteThe guy sitting behind Perkins is saying "I paid $20,000 for these seats?"
ReplyDeleteFisher the first hoop of the night.
I love this...Let the Boys Play!
ReplyDeleteSheed with some life on both sides early tonight.
ReplyDeleteLakers dominating the offensive glass. Not good for Boston.
ReplyDelete@ kt: Actually I just finished the South Africa-Uruguay game. Like right now.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I am watching 3 games at once.....
I hope Jose3030 got a snap of Doris Burke with the glasses she had on in the pre-game interview...
ReplyDeleteKobe was fouled twice!
ReplyDeleteBlowing past Kevin Garnett. So easy even Pau Gasol could do it.
ReplyDeleteKobe should've passed when he saw the double-team, forced a terrible shot there.
ReplyDeleteNothing but air for KG
ReplyDeleteHe listened to me the next time, like I have any influence.
ReplyDeleteJump ball.
The officials have listened to us and let these guys play.
ReplyDeleteOk, why is a wrestler hosting a game show?
ReplyDeleteThe C's have got to find a way to get some rebounds...
ReplyDeleteedit: JVG had the same thought
Allen for 3!
ReplyDeleteJesus!
ReplyDeleteRay Allen's stroke from 3 looks good tonight.
ReplyDeleteAlley-Oop!
ReplyDelete@kt 6:19: I was busy trying to figure how Scott Ferrall got the voiceover for that Downfall commercial.
ReplyDeleteFirst FG make for Kobe.
Kobe's first FG, Lakers have to pick up the pace...and stop Big Baby among other things.
ReplyDeleteBig Baby wants to go to Disneyland.
ReplyDelete@JFein 6:11pm I hope you don't get confused and think the Sarge is doing Argentina against South Korea
ReplyDelete@Keith Big Baby wants to get paid
ReplyDelete/fix'd
ESPN self-promoting tomorrow= me getting nautious
ReplyDeleteoooo 2 fouls early on Gasol
ReplyDeleteAl, US Open Round 1 & Game 7 were packaged by ESPN as "California Dreamin.'"
ReplyDeleteGasol with his 2nd foul.
Cs with a 7 point lead.
ReplyDeleteedit: why am I worried about fouls? it's not as if any of the stars are going to foul out
ReplyDeleteBig Baby playing like a Man.
ReplyDelete2 fouls on Garnett!
the Baby is becoming a man
ReplyDelete/horrible cliche'd
Is Joey Crawford gonna give 2 Ts to Kendrick Perkins on the sideline?
ReplyDelete/Tim Duncan laughing on the bench'd
wow...what a quarter for the C's
ReplyDeleteKobe not playing well and the Celtics hustling.
ReplyDeleteIf Allen made that shot at the buzzer it would've been a killer.
ReplyDelete@RJBO only if the NBA needs a Lakers comeback in the 2nd half
ReplyDelete"Jim Rome
ReplyDeleteThat's a nervous arena. Laker fan is gripping. Like someone just told him the city's supply of botox was dry."
Ha, Rome.
ReplyDeleteWin or lose, the L.A. Live SportsCenter will have a distinct hint of tear gas in the air.
Nice play by Contreras!
ReplyDeleteCs better wake back up. 9-0 Lakers burst.
ReplyDeleteBreen: "Jack Nicholson did not try to pick up the charge."
ReplyDeleteArtest! Lakers lead! I can't root for the C's.
ReplyDeleteRondo, damn.
Al.............you're banned!
ReplyDeleteSo many Lakers offensive boards....
ReplyDeleteAlso, ABC, you did not catch that s-bomb in time.
3rd foul on Garnett. PUT IN SCALABRINE!
ReplyDelete@49er16 I'm sorry. LOL Kobe is one my favorite non-Wizards players. I can't root for Rasheed Wallace either. So much hope w/ him in the 90s that the Wiz could be decent, never happened.
ReplyDeleteThis is an anti-Lakers blog and I have the power to delete comments ;-)
ReplyDeleteAs soon as this game is over, NBA talk will go back to exclusively LeBron talk.
ReplyDeleteCan the Lakers & Cs play a Game 8 & 9?
T.O. is still a celebrity?
"It's a Great American Friday..."
ReplyDeleteNo it isn't, only the 4th of July is!!!!!
JVG talking about how cute a celebrity's kid is: Creepy, at best.
ReplyDeleteDouble Ts for Artest & Pierce.
ReplyDeleteRasheed with his 2nd foul. 38-34, This hasn't been a pretty game.
ReplyDelete40-34 after Pierce's 2 FTs.
ReplyDeleteScal totally owned that 10 seconds of game he was in.
ReplyDeleteHalftime
ReplyDelete7-1 Phillies over the Yankees.
ReplyDeleteI wanted a semi-intriguing bottom of the 9th to watch while halftime was on, but Joba & Chan Ho had to bollix things up.
ReplyDelete/turns on Family Guy on TBS instead
@ RJBO: Don't forget Demeco Marte!
ReplyDelete@JFein Nats lost to the Tigers this afternoon. What else is new?!
ReplyDeleteNone of their starters not named Strasburg can pitch. They all stink!
I'm enjoying this mini preview of Strasburg's next start on MLB Network tomorrow instead.
ReplyDeleteLOL Rome
ReplyDelete"Jim Rome
How can I focus on Game 7 when I'm sweating Tim Howard's health so hard?"
I love the discussion about Kobe's legacy by the halftime crew. /Sarcasm
ReplyDeleteDamn White Sox game on WGN ended. Start the 2nd half, please.
Stu: "If you're not glued to the 2nd half, something's wrong with you."
ReplyDeleteAu contraire! Your insomnia was cured by the 1st half.
Phils win 7-1.
ReplyDeleteI now eagerly wait for my father and My Brother The Vikings Fan to come home drenched in beer.
@RJBO What? I can't hear you. I'm getting tired...
ReplyDeleteNo basket! WOW! Garnett fouled before the shot.
ReplyDeleteGarnett the And-1!
ReplyDeleteKobe is playing like his legacy is on the line.
ReplyDeleteGarnett gets the basket and the foul! 1 Celtic against 3 Lakers.
ReplyDeleteKobe is 3-16 so far. He must be playing for John Starks' Game 7 legacy, too.
ReplyDelete/June 17, 1994'd
I am loving the 3-16 from the Mamba
ReplyDeleteTO Lakers!
@49er16 Jerry West is an all-time Laker great. He NEVER beat the Celtics in his Finals career. Kobe shouldn't worry about his stupid legacy.
ReplyDeleteThe Lakers can't hit the ocean let alone the basket right now.
It's the Celtics Curse.
Fun fact of the evening: the AVG transaction ticket price for this game was $1091
ReplyDeletethey are sure getting their money's worth
On cue with the John Starks reference from Mark Jackson.
ReplyDelete/Hacks thinking alike'd
there might be a riot inside Staples before this game ends
ReplyDeleteIs there any possible way this Game 7 is worse than the Pistons-Spurs 81-74 snooze fest 5 years ago?
ReplyDelete@RJBO: I think it is worse.
ReplyDelete@RJBO well, i've switched to Parks and Rec on NBC
ReplyDelete/shoots self
Too bad the College World Series hasn't started. I'd be watching that instead.
ReplyDelete/PING!
@RJBO The only thing this game has isthe rivalry component. Bad basketball for the NBA Finals. 51-45 in the middle of the 3rd is awful offense.
ReplyDeleteJackson: "We have ourselves a Game 7!"
ReplyDeleteDude, it's 51-45. Including a burst by the Lakers. Bleh.
I blame the Celtics "keep the game in the 80s" offensive philosophy. I'd rather see Lebron and the Cavs...did I just say that?
ReplyDeleteLet's be clear: I could care less how exciting my team plays, as long as they win (to explain away the 2004-05 Pistons). Not having a horse in this race, it's Basketball Sominex.
ReplyDeleteSo boring, ABC had to do yet another celebrity watch.
"Not the prettiest of games" --Breen
ReplyDeleteIs Andy Garcia impersonating Groucho Marx?
ReplyDeleteRasheed, ugh.
ReplyDeletePierce needed that one badly
ReplyDeleteRefs aren't calling any fouls on jump shots, that doesn't help the offenses.
ReplyDelete"The Bank is Open Late!"
ReplyDelete/Brando'd
The bank is open for Sheed!
ReplyDelete/Brando'd
Nice block by Pau!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best UCLA-Boston College game ever.
ReplyDelete/sarcasm'd
Fisher going back to the locker room...
ReplyDeleteRay Allen with the steal!
ReplyDeleteThey let everything go all night, and then they call that?
ReplyDeleteThis is worse than Game 7 of the 1994 finals
ReplyDeleteJVG: "This is one of the most poorly played games you'll ever see from the offensive side." Agreed.
ReplyDeleteWhy are the LA fans chanting "DEFENSE!"? Haven't they seen enough of it already?
ReplyDelete"This is the one of the most poorly-played games...from an offensive standpoint but one of the hardest played from a defensive standpoint." -Van Gundy
ReplyDeleteJeff, you were right the first time.
At least the game is close.........
ReplyDeleteThis is worse than Game 7 of the 1994 finals
ReplyDeleteSomeone tell Barry Sanders to start a slow speed chase.
@JFein +1,000,000 The crowd should chant "OFFENSE!".
ReplyDeleteJackie Moon just threw up a brick for the celtics
ReplyDeleteOh Scal
ReplyDeleteFirst team to 75 wins.
ReplyDelete57-53 (after 3 QTR) is a good halftime score.
ReplyDeleteWell, either Kobe or a bunch of Massholes are gonna be really sad. I can live with either.
ReplyDelete/the NBA is faaaannnnnnntastic
Lakers got back into the game after they were down double-digits as we (okay, me) worry about the crappy play.
ReplyDeleteGasol and 1!
ReplyDeleteHow is that a foul?
ReplyDeleteTHE LEAD IS DOWN TO 2!
ReplyDelete/excitement in low doses'd
Of course, he missed the FT.
ReplyDeleteKobe still missing shots...
ReplyDeleteBryant, in and out! Ouch.
ReplyDeleteKobe can't even flop correctly.
ReplyDeleteI am going to break my brain trying to figure out what's a foul and what isn't
ReplyDeleteJackson: "Anytime you (JVG) say something, that means I'm right."
ReplyDelete@RJBO First to 70 wins. /Fixed
ReplyDeletedid Mark Jackson just call something "easy offense?"
ReplyDeleteThis game makes me miss those Heat/Knicks games from the 90's.
ReplyDeleteBailout foul on a Kobe 3 by Allen.
ReplyDeleteM-V-P Chants???????????
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing Kobe found out Jordan Farmar is banging his mom?
ReplyDelete/sorry JFein
nice take by Allen
ReplyDeleteARTEST! AND-1!
ReplyDeleteTIED!!!!
ReplyDelete/at 61
Artest, basket and the foul! Tie game. At least, it's close.
ReplyDeleteTim Donaghy Alert!
ReplyDeleteKG, the block.
ReplyDeleteI'm done. The refs clearly have the Lakers.
ReplyDeleteSheed picks up his 5th foul.
ReplyDeleteGasol at the line, misses both! Lakers can't hit field goals or free throws!
ReplyDeleteBALL DON'T LIE, PAU
ReplyDelete@ Keith: A belated congratulations on picking up Samuel Dalembert!
ReplyDeleteYou'll enjoy his many foul outs.
FISHER FOR 3!
ReplyDeleteFisher! Finally, somebody hits an outside shot.
ReplyDeleteThe refs have let this one get away from them
ReplyDeleteI think Doc Rivers wants "MOVEMENT! MOVEMENT! MOVEMENT!" offensively for the Celts.
ReplyDeleteLakers lead...somehow.
ReplyDeleteIf I could, I'd bet everything on the Lakers winning by 8 or 9
ReplyDeleteI can't watch anymore. Celtics gagging.
ReplyDeleteJackson: "Kobe's saying 'I'm gonna roll these dice and I better not crap out.'"
ReplyDeleteKobe gets 1 basket in an otherwise horrible game for him and all of a sudden he is a Superman?
ReplyDelete/This game is an embarrassment to nature
Kobe with 2 FTs, defensive rebound, and basket on successive possessions.
ReplyDeleteHe's taking over.
Garnett or Rondo need to do something for the C's, they're the only ones who haven't stunk tonight.
@JFein
ReplyDeleteThe NBA it's FAAAAAANNNNNNNNTASTIC!
How is that a foul???????????
ReplyDeleteBreen: "What do the Celtics do for offense?"
ReplyDeleteJVG: "They need Larry Bird out there."
9-0 Lakers run.
Let's give Kobe the MVP for his 15 rebounds!
ReplyDelete/shoots self
Finally a shot goes down for Pierce & the Cs.
ReplyDeletePierce! Finally somebody hits for Boston. /Trying to be enthuiastic
ReplyDeleteWho else will they give the MVP to? Ron Artest?
ReplyDeleteKobe's been awful but he deserves the award if they win tonight.
This is also the worst game in Finals history.
Garnett!
ReplyDelete/half-hearted excitement
Garnett with the jam! That's the best play I've seen all night.
ReplyDeleteTweet from Down Goes Brown: "
ReplyDeleteCeltics: In hindsight, the halftime "How to finish when you have the lead" guest lecture by the Bruins may have been a mistake."
Hahaha Down Goes Brown
ReplyDeleteWhether it's justified or not, the Boston fans will have a field day with the officiating.
ReplyDeleteDumb foul by Pierce.
SMH
ReplyDeletesomeone check the FT disparity this Quarter
If I could, I'd bet everything on the Lakers winning by 8 or 9
ReplyDeleteThe refs are doing everything to make that come true. The Lakers are doing everything to prevent it.
Pointless foul by Artest.
ReplyDeleteI'm calling it now, Celts can't come back. It stinks that the game has been so bad offensively. The rest of the games in the series were good.
ReplyDelete@SSR
ReplyDeletethe Lakers horrific FT % is the only thing keeping this game semi-interesting
Believe it or not, one of these teams will call themselves champions by the end of the night.
ReplyDelete/Pathetic
Boston has pressed the self destruct button.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteDid Sheed just take out a fan?
ReplyDeleteBallgame.
ReplyDeleteGasol with the dagger...a made field goal.
ReplyDeleteBrutal game.
ReplyDeleteSHEED!
ReplyDeleteShould I be feeling a sense of excitement now?
ReplyDeleteArtest with the answer

ReplyDeleteWhere was this shooting in the first 47 minutes?
ReplyDeleteSHEED!
ReplyDeleteARTEST!

Where was this for the first 47 minutes?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe first 10,000 Lakers fans leaving Staples get a free tear gas shower.
ReplyDeleteKobe makes the 2 FTs, 81-76 w/ 25.7to go.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost welcoming two months on LeBron blather after this series is over...
ReplyDeleteBrando tweets!
ReplyDelete"At least this Game 7 is CLOSE. The Playoffs in general not compelling. Even tonight the Lakers bad at the line.Ray Allen's IRON UNKIND!ouch."
"Very poorly played offensively. Setting the NBA back in my opinion. If anyone remembers these matchups in the 60's 70's and 80's.not close!"
RONDO FOR 3!
ReplyDeleteRONDO! 2-POINT GAME!
ReplyDeleteLow scoring but exciting
ReplyDeleteamazing. 47 minutes of garbage for this...
ReplyDeleteDeSean Jackson is already celebrating this Laker win.....
ReplyDelete"It's the LAKER NATIoN...... Fucc BOSTON.... Back 2 Back... And u do know that.... WEST UP... Ya Digg."
