San Francisco 6 Philadelphia 2: Matt Downs and Aubrey Huff hit solo home runs in the 2nd inning off of Jamie Moyer to help the Giants beat the Phillies. Todd Wellemeyer finally won his first game of the year with the Giants by going seven innings giving up three hits, two runs, and striking out four. Pablo Sandoval and Edgar Renteria both drove in two RBIs in the game. (Photo courtesy of McCovey Chronicles)
Texas 4 Chicago White Sox 2: Misty May's husband homered and drove in three runs in the Rangers victory over the White Sox. C.J. Wilson pitched six innings giving up five hits, two runs, and striking out five.
Ozzie Guillen Quote: From the AP recap, “We’ve didn’t get the big base hit we needed,” manager Ozzie Guillen said. “We’ve got to execute.”
Baltimore 5 New York Yankees 4: The Orioles picked the right to beat to pick up their first victory at home. The Orioles also have their first winning streak of the year. The Orioles bullpen damn near blew another save by giving up two runs in the ninth inning, before Alfredo Simon finally closed the door on the Yankees.
Dave Trembley Quote: The skipper talks about another nail biting ninth inning from his relievers. Quote from the AP recap, “After all the other stuff we’ve gone through the previous 19 games, the ninth inning tonight was a piece of cake,” Trembley said with a wry grin. I'd be smiling too if my bullpen didn't blow another lead.
New York Mets 10 Los Angeles 5, Game 1; New York Mets 4 Los Angeles 0 Game 2: The Mets swept the doubleheader against the Dodgers and to go along with the sweep over the Dodgers. Johan Santana pitched well in game 2, while the Mets lineup exploded for 10 runs in game 2. The Mets better enjoy being in 1st place in the NL East at the moment, because it probably won't last long.
Detroit 0 Minnesota 2: Francisco Liriano shut down the Tigers and out-pitched Justin Verlander in the process. Liriano pitched eight innings giving up no runs, four hits, and striking out 10. J.J. Hardy and Jim Thome knocked in both runs for the Twins.
Milwaukee 3 Pittsburgh 7: The Pirates have finally won a game in Milwaukee. After losing 22 straight games at Miller Park, the Pirates came from behind in the ninth inning to defeat the Brewers. Trevor Hoffman blew his third save of the year by giving up home runs to Ronny Cedeno and Ryan Doumit, including a grand slam to Doumit. Hoffman's career might be coming to a close very soon.
Seattle 3 Kansas City 2: Once again the Royals bullpen failed Zach Greinke. After Greinke went seven innings giving up no runs and six hits, the Royals bullpen imploded in the eighth inning giving up three runs and losing the game. Greinke still doesn't have a win on the year.
Do the Giants sweep today?
ReplyDeleteLet's hope Hollywood has something to say about that whole sweep thing.
ReplyDeleteAnd our offense waking up would help. I'm not optimistic against Lincecum.
