Random Thoughts: This is SMU's first bowl appearance since the school was hit by the NCAA death penalty back in 1987. The other big story about this game is the bitter sweet return to the Hawaii Islands for former Hawaii graduate and coach June Jones.
Jones, as you may remember, lead Hawaii to BCS glory a couple of years ago when he lead the program to the Sugar Bowl. Then just a couple of days after Hawaii was thrashed by Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, Jones bolted for SMU because of a bigger pay day. So to say this is a awkward reunion is a understatement.
