Once again use this thread to discuss all the college football games you are currently watching. I will once again update the thread with comments, quotes, pictures, and videos throughout the day. Have fun and enjoy some college football.
Here's this week's must list and announcing schedule
Mourning Games:
- I forgot to mention that the Gameday boys were in Colorado Springs at the United States Air Force Academy. When predicting the games today, Lee Corso put on the Air Force mascot head.
- This could be the end for Iowa. Their starting quarterback Ricky Stanzi got hurt and had to leave for the locker room. Stanzi's backup immediately thew an interception and now Northwestern is driving down the field on Iowa. 10-7 Iowa in the 2nd quarter with Northwestern in the red zone.
- Where's Kris? Maryland is beating NC State 21-17 in the 2nd quarter. This game is actually pretty exciting despite the teams.
- And an undefeated team goes down. Iowa loses for the first time this season 17-10 to Northwestern. Ricky Stanzi got hurt in this game, essentially ending all of Iowa's chances at staying undefeated. Now there is only 5 undefeated teams in the nation.
Afternoon Games:
Now we got the boring mourning games out of the way, on to the more exciting afternoon games.
- Navy is beating Notre Dame 14-0 in the 2nd quarter. Notre Dame can't stop Navy's triple-option offense if they liked to.
- Here's the highlights to the Iowa-Northwestern game. Iowa lost for the first time this season, knocking them out of the national title picture.
- After two consecutive fumbles, Oregon scored to make the game 24-14 Stanford in the 2nd quarter. Oregon has been suffering from a hangover from the USC game so far. It will be interesting to see if they can come back and beat Furd.
- 7-3 LSU over Alabama at half. Alabama still hasn't scored a touchdown in almost two complete games. Alabama also has more net yards than LSU in the game, but they haven't been able to score when they are in the red zone.
- 31-14 Stanford over Oregon at half. Stanford already has over 300 total yards in the game, including 189 passing yards. Oregon is obviously suffering from the hangover affect from the USC game.
- It's a final from South Bend. Navy beat Notre Dame 23-21. Navy never beat Notre Dame for 43 straight years. Then Navy beat the Irish in 2007 at South Bend and now the Middies have beat the Irish twice in three years and both times coming in South Bend. I can't imagine Charlie Weis making it past this year. A loss to USC is understandable, but two loses to Navy in three years? Get Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly on the phone.
- Down goes Oregon. The Ducks lost to Stanford 51-42. Even though USC lost to Oregon, the door just re-opened for USC to get a berth to a BCS game. The Pac-10 has been one of the best conferences in the nation this year.
Night Games:
I will be in and out for the rest of the night, but I will try and upload as many video's and comments as possible.
- At least Notre Dame fans aren't taking the Navy loss hard or anything.
- Sad night for all Cal football fans. Jahvid Best was carried off the field on a stretcher after an unbelievable fall in the end zone. This fall and injury goes to show that there is more in life than football. Oregon State is beating Cal 21-7 at half, but the score obviously doesn't matter at this point. I can't watch this video, but I want everyone to see what the severe impact of the fall and what happens to Jahvid's body.
I'm out for the night everyone. Thoughts and Prayers with Jahvid, Jahvid's family and the Cal Bear family.
Hey Keith, I have not forgotten about you or the open thread, although I won't be watching much college football. If I get enough done to my satisfaction, I'll watch the UConn-Cincy game. The part of me that likes these human interest stories is piqued.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, I may post a few Twitterific tweets here and there but aside from that, I'll chat with ya later.
I wouldn't blame anyone foe not commenting here in the mourning. What boring games this mourning.
ReplyDeleteGameday couldn't pick a perfect time to do a Gameday from the military academy after the Ft. Hood shootings.
ReplyDeleteWho knew the most exciting games this year would be Iowa games?
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Northwestern!
ReplyDelete14-10 Northwestern
Touchdown Northwestern!
ReplyDeleteSI cover jinx strikes again!
Now Iowa has turned the ball over for a 4th time today.
ReplyDeleteNorthwestern is playing with a shitload of confidence right now.
I said this last week, but if Iowa somehow wins today, then they deserve to be in the National Championship.
ReplyDeleteTexas is only up 14-3 against Central Florida at halftime. And your telling me they are a National Title contender?
ReplyDeleteTexas will get smoked in the National Championship Game.
ReplyDeleteAlso Kansas has taken a huge fall from grace. First they lose to Colorado, then to Oklahoma, and now they are losing to Kansas State.
Correction: Kansas isn't losing to Kansas State. They are though only leading 7-3 before halftime.
ReplyDeleteIowa's offense was pathetic to watch with Stanzi. Now they are just unwatchable.
ReplyDeleteEven though Iowa is losing, I have a feeling they are still going to win.
ReplyDeleteIf Northwestern scores here, no way Iowa comes back.
ReplyDeleteIowa could be on the verge of losing.
ReplyDeleteThat's it, Iowa loses for the first time this season.
ReplyDeleteSee you in the annual Big Ten asskicking Iowa, also known as the Rose Bowl.
ReplyDelete7-0 Navy over Notre Dame already.
ReplyDeleteThe Irish just missed a FG...so its still 7-0
ReplyDeleteNC State leads Maryland 31-28, but at least the Wolfpack knocked out MD's starting quarterback...MD has finally started moving the ball
Navy is driving down the field on Notre Dame again. They are at Notre Dame's 25 yard line.
ReplyDeleteend of the 1st Qtr...Navy leads 7-0, with the ball at ND's 25
ReplyDeleteif this kid Robinson isn't MD's quarterback for the rest of the season, then Ralph Fridgen should be fired.
ReplyDeleteI'd stop donating, but i want to someday be able to get MD basketball season tickets
and MD misses the FG, so it's still 31-28
ReplyDeletebut the offense has a pulse
Touchdown Navy!
ReplyDelete14-0 Navy
Touchdown Navy! Murray with a 25 yard TD run!
ReplyDelete14-0 Navy
If this was a Navy home game, I would start chanting U.S.A.! U.S.A.!
ReplyDeleteyou wanna know what sucks? when you turn to CBS and that station is airing the ACC Game of the Week and this Miami/ UVA abortion still isn't over.
ReplyDeleteof course, now ND is knocking on the door
ReplyDeletenow ND has 4th and Goal
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha.....Notre Dame didn't get that call.
ReplyDeletePI IN THE END ZONE?!?! THAT'S A TERRIBLE CALL...THE ACC IS SCREWING MARYLAND AGAIN
ReplyDeleteTD NC State 38-28 4th Qtr
Navy holds! What a horrendous play call..
ReplyDeleteHave another doughnut Charlie
LOL Notre Dame
ReplyDeleteIs Charlie Weis really that arrogant? Instead of putting points on the board, they go for it on 4th and goal. He deserves to be fired.
My Sac State Hornets are beating Norther Colorado 31-0.
ReplyDeleteYay!
I'm sure Sac State could take Maryland
ReplyDeleteNo, they couldn't. They only have 3 wins on the season and there is no way they win their remaining two games.
ReplyDeleteLate F'n Flag wipes out a Maryland touchdown...
ReplyDelete@Keith you obviously haven't watched Maryland this year :)
ReplyDeleteNotre Dame once again can't score in the red zone and they once again miss another field goal.
ReplyDeleteStill 14-0 Navy
Thats the 2nd missed FG for Notre Dame...
ReplyDeletewhy don't you bring someone in from the stands for the 2nd half, Charlie?
@Kris, I watched one Maryland game.
ReplyDeleteYou have obviously never watched Sac State. They are just as bad as Maryland ;-)
I'm loving watching this Navy-Notre Dame game. The Irish haven't been able to do anything in the red zone. They have no problem driving down the field, but they can't do anything near the red zone.
ReplyDeleteMaryland within a touchdown...38-31 4:54 to go
ReplyDelete@Keith that's true
ReplyDeletewhat a nice run by Dobbs on that 3rd Down
ReplyDeleteNavy runs that offense so well. Notre Dame can't even stop them if they tried.
ReplyDeleteOregon is losing to Furd 10-0.
ReplyDeleteLOL, now Notre Dame are taking cheap shots at Navy.
ReplyDeleteRoughing the passer on the Irish is gonna set Navy up in great FG position
ReplyDelete@Jay so true. this triple option flex offensive is a thing of beauty
ReplyDeleteOhio State is winning 7-0
ReplyDeletehe missed..
ReplyDelete14-0 Navy at the half
Shanked field goal by Navy, but they still lead 14-0 at half.
ReplyDeletewhat a run by Jamarr Robinson! MD is inside the NCST 35 with :33 to go...
ReplyDelete2nd down w/ :22 to go
oh he got sacked...
ReplyDeleteMD will have 1 play left with :05 to play
Penn State has tied the game.
ReplyDeleteRobinson sacked on the hail mary attempt...great fucking blocking guys...
ReplyDeletethe bad news: no bowl for Maryland
the good news: 16 days to the Maui Invitational!
Fuck me, that's a long trip for the Maryland players.
ReplyDeleteIt takes five hours to fly to Oahu from San Franisco alone.
@Keith yes it is a bit of a haul from here...
ReplyDeletehowever, i think MD is the best team in that field
@Kris, who else is playing in that tournament?
ReplyDelete@Kris, nevermind, I looked up the teams in that tournament.
ReplyDeleteYour right, Maryland should have the best team there. Only Wisconsin will have just as good of team.
Why did Tom Hammond just call Alex Flannigan "scooter"?
ReplyDelete@Keith i agree with you that Wisc. is about even with Maryland and I don't think you can ever count out Gonzaga...
ReplyDeletebig 3rd down conversion for Navy to open the 2nd half
Just your luck though Kris, Maryland will lose to Chaminade.
ReplyDeleteNotre Dame can't stop Navy on third down. This is beautiful.
ReplyDeletei am disappointed Navy didn't go for that 1st down
ReplyDelete@Keith ha! the funny thing is that this is MD's 4th trip to Maui and the 3rd time they're going to play Chaimnade
ReplyDeleteand I have completely forgotten about LSU/Alabama
ReplyDeleteSo much for Oregon. They are losing to Furd 24-7 in the 2nd quarter.
ReplyDelete1st and Goal ND at the 1
ReplyDeleteND finally punches it in for 6
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Notre Dame
ReplyDelete14-7 Navy
14-7 Navy 5:03 left in the 3rd
ReplyDelete7-3 LSU before the half
ReplyDeleteis the ACC so bad that ESPN has to force Pam Ward and Ray Bentley on us?
ReplyDelete@Kris, Yes!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where Pammie and Ray where today.
ReplyDeletethe Irish can not stop the Navy FB
ReplyDelete@Jay Ga Tech/Wake Forest
ReplyDelete@Kris, thank God I don't have that game.
ReplyDeleteDobbs!! 50 yard TD pass!!! WOW!!!
ReplyDeleteThat call should stand. Pending XP it should be 21-7 Navy.
ReplyDeleteno Tom, i refuse to feel any empathy for those Golden Domer jackasses.
ReplyDelete21-7 Navy!
ReplyDelete17-10 Wake at Halftime
ReplyDeleteUnfortanetly there isn't enough evidence to give Navy that fumble.
ReplyDelete7-3 LSU over Alabama at half.
ReplyDeleteFumble and Navy recovers while Jimmmy Clausen is hurt.
ReplyDeletethat fumble is going to stand too
ReplyDeleteTom your crazy if you think the ground caused that fumble.
ReplyDelete@KT, now I wouldn't be celebrating someone getting hurt, even if he plays for Notre Dame.
that is the end of the 3rd Quarter
ReplyDelete@Keith I become a madman when it comes to Notre Dame, though i was referring to Clausen's fumble.
ReplyDelete40 yards for Murray on 1st Down at the 1/2 yard line
ReplyDeleteJust like that, Navy is in Irish territory
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that. Navy at their own goaline run up the middle for over 40 yards and now they are in field goal range in two plays.
ReplyDeletewell, Navy just punted for a touchback
ReplyDeleteGive it up for Clausen. He's back in the game after that brutal hit.
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't Navy blitzing?
ReplyDeleteNice 15 yd zone on 3rd and 10 navy
ReplyDeleteInterception Navy!
ReplyDeletePicked off! Navy ball
ReplyDeleteThen Clausen is called for a late hit. Our Navy boys are kicking some Notre Dame ass.
ReplyDeleteApparently nobody told Clausen "the one who retaliates gets penalized" rule. The call is a little iffy. I hate ND, but still that was an SEC call there
ReplyDeleteI agree jgreul. I hate Notre Dame but the refs should have kept their flags in their pockets.
ReplyDeletethis is a huge 3rd down
ReplyDeleteHuge stop for Notre Dame there. Still a two possession game with 6:44 left.
ReplyDeletesomeone should tell Niumatalolo that the Irish haven't stopped Murray all day
ReplyDeleteGreat punt for Navy. Force Notre Dame deep into their own territory.
ReplyDeleteWeird stat of the day:
ReplyDeleteNotre Dame hasn't punted once in this game.
Jonathan Dwyer is a monster. That is all.
ReplyDeleteGA Tech just scored TD, tied at 17
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Alabama! 10-7 Alabama
ReplyDeleteHow was that defensive pass interference?
ReplyDeleteevery time ND throws to Floyd he pushes off, and he finally gets the side judge to throw the flag on Navy
ReplyDeleteand the Irish keep backing themselves up
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Notre Dame.
ReplyDeleteOne possession game now.
Navy is challenging the call and will lose it
ReplyDeleteGut feeling: Navy is going to choke.
ReplyDeleteGreen gets the 1st down. Huge
ReplyDeleteND takes their 2nd TO. Another first down will end the game.
ReplyDelete3rd and 8..ND takes their final timeout
ReplyDeletefor some reason, I'm feeling a pass as stupid as it sounds
Dobbs gets 4...Navy will punt
ReplyDeleteAnd Navy tried the pass and Dobbs just runs and is stopped of the 1st down. Punt time for Navy.
ReplyDeleteI've never realized how tall Tom Hammond is before.
ReplyDelete@Keith Navy choked away games v ND in 97,99 and 2002. And I think you're right
ReplyDelete87 yards, 1:48, 0 timeouts
ReplyDeleteWow! Navy picked up a huge break there with Floyd dropping that pass.
ReplyDelete3rd and 10 for ND
ReplyDeleteDOWN GOES CLAUSEN.
ReplyDelete4TH DOWN FOR NOTRE DAME
Clausen sacked! 4th and 20 coming up!
ReplyDeleteGAME OVER! CLAUSEN SACED FOR A SAFETY!
ReplyDeleteNAVY SAFETY!! THEY CLINCH THE GAME!!
ReplyDeleteFAT CHUCK CAN START PACKING HIS BAGS.
ReplyDeleteThis will be the 2nd time in 3 years that Navy has beat Notre Dame in South Bend.
ReplyDeleteTime to give Urban 70 bazillion dollars to save your sorry asses
ReplyDeleteof course, the Irish recover the onside kick
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Notre Dame.
ReplyDeleteGame not over yet.........
wow..that was way too easy Navy
ReplyDeleteNavy has to recover the onside kick this time.
ReplyDeletethe high onside kick is one place where ND can use their size advantage to great effect
ReplyDeleteAnd Navy recovers this onside kick and that will be the game.
ReplyDeleteNavy recovers..and you can book this game
ReplyDeleteI am out of here....see you guys tomorrow
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing sight.
ReplyDeleteNotre Dame with Navy as Navy sings their fight song.
I agree about Alex Flanagan. What an underrated hottie.
ReplyDeleteOregon down by 20 with 10 minutes to play.
ReplyDeleteThat guys video is epic!
ReplyDeleteBrad Nessler just did a very poor stunt regarding Howards Rock at Clemson. He held up a stone and called it the Nesstone. Then he said "If youre not prepared to give 110 % keep your filthy hands off my rock"
ReplyDeleteI saw what Nessler did. Very poor taste in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteJahvid Best is hurt bad in the Cal-Oregon State game.
ReplyDeleteWas flipped in the air and hurt kneck, head, and back.
Jahvid Best had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. Real ugly scene.
ReplyDeleteAs good as Nessler was with Griese and Maguire, I figured he would be 10 times better working with ESPN's best college football analyst, Todd Blackledge. Sadly, I think he might be 10 times worse. Brad has not been having a good year.
ReplyDeleteOof, sorry Keith.
ReplyDeleteVery OT, but if you have not yet, check out my new Twitter background. I love Brad Lidge (in a non-creepy way), but it was getting old and Phillies season is over.
I can't believe UConn is back in this game...
ReplyDelete
