This isn't the greatest week for college football, but you should enjoy the games. There is only one weekend left after this one. Then we are onto conference championships and bowl games. So celebrate the college football weekend, despite the lack of great games. As always I will try and update this thread as often as possible. Leave comments!
Announcing Schedule
Mourning Games:
- Since "The Big Game" is this week, this is for all Stanfurd grads and students.
- Well look at that. The Pac-10 has had a better year than the SEC, but according to Gary Danielson the SEC is the greatest conference alive.
- Also the Gameday crew were in Tuscon, Arizona for the Oregon-Arizona game. Winner of that game is basically the winner of the Pac-10. Corso liked Oregon.
- JFein and Dan Leavy mentioned a tearful tribute Sean McDonough gave to the Spielman family during the Michigan-Ohio State game. While we will be searching for that video, I wanted to leave you with this video of Stefanie Spielman's story and her fight with breast cancer.
- In case anyone noticed, Michigan and Ohio State played their annual game this year. And once again Ohio State won 21-10. In reality though, Michigan gave this game away to Ohio State. Tate Forcier threw four interceptions and fumbled once in his own end zone. So much for that Tate Foricer as the next Tim Tebow hype.
- Also if you missed the Iowa-Minnesota game, then same on you. This was one of the most exciting games of the season. Or not. Iowa won 15-0, but never scored a touchdown in the game. Minnesota and Iowa combined for 25 first downs in the entire game. Thank God, this is the last weekend for Big Ten football.
Afternoon Games:
- Well for the 2nd year in a row, Notre Dame lost to a Big East school on Senior day. This time though it took two overtimes for UConn to beat Notre Dame 33-30. UConn rushed for 231 yards against Notre Dame and fittingly Andre Dixon ran in the game-winning touchdown against the Irish. This will most likely be the last home game for the Great Weis Hope.
- Of course a Ohio State fan uploaded this video. They caught Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez crying on the sideline.
Night Games:
- Here's the finish to the Notre Dame-UConn game and Charlie Weis' last game in South Bend.
- Update: Here's an updated version of the dumb mistake by Les Miles in the LSU-Ole Miss game. I'm sure he will never live down this decision.
- Here's Les Miles trying to explain his decision that cost his team a win against Ole Miss.
- At least LSU fans are taking the loss to Ole Miss well.
To no one's surprise, Spielman is not in the booth today with Pasch and Griese.
ReplyDeleteAnd Lee Corso looked completely ridiculous with that Oregon costume head.
What is with those Ohio State throwbacks?
ReplyDeleteForcier fumbled the ball in his own endzone and Ohio State recovered it for a touchdown.
ReplyDeleteThis rivarly doesn't feel the same without Lloyd Carr.
ReplyDeleteHit refresh and check out a picture I posted.
ReplyDeleteDan Dierdorf is on the field and walkiing on a cane.
ReplyDeleteDo ESPNU games ever air on ESPN360?
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: This rivalry does not feel the same when the game is utterly meaningless.
ReplyDelete/Fixed
@JFein, I thought they did, but of course I hardly ever use ESPN 360.
ReplyDeleteWell, I found a solution to my ESPN360, only it looks like it will take me forever.
ReplyDeleteOh well. I guess I'm not going to see the Temple game (or anything else on 360 for a long time for that matter).
Bob Griese is talking about how his first wife also died. Said he would be there for Spielman. Very emotional speech.
ReplyDelete@JFein, How do you upload videos from an actual video camera to YouTube?
ReplyDeleteBah. The game is not even on the 360 schedule.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if this is a problem that I can fix without spending way too much time on it.
@ 49er16: I guess save the video from your camera on the computer. Go to youtube.com and click "upload" then click "upload video" and I guess you go from there.
ReplyDeleteI've never done it before so I don't know. All my videos have been from my webcam. It's almost like uploading a picture onto blogger, I think.
I'm going to get something to eat and completely forget about my 360 problems. Be right back.
ReplyDeleteYour eating lunch and I just made breakfast. I made a nice omlet with bacon and sausage.
ReplyDeleteOklahoma is also wearing crappy white throwback jersey's today.
ReplyDelete@ Keith: Actually, that was also my breakfast!
ReplyDeleteYou see, I was up at 11:30 this morning. I then wanted to check out the start of the games (while they were still close) and then just went now to eat. The cafeteria serves what they call brunch, and seeing as their lunch items are almost guaranteed to be positively disgusting, I went for the pancakes. Yummy pancakes.
@JFein, you may not get this game, but the Oklahoma-Texas Tech has been a pretty good game.
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Texas Tech!
ReplyDelete10-6 Texas Tech
Am I the only one that can't wait for the conference championships to begin already?
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: I get it on both CSN Philly and FSN Pitt.
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: Believe it or not, your favorite team, Stanford, can still win the PAC-10.
ReplyDelete@JFein, you not alone. This college football season is going out in a whimper. That's why I didn't post the Must List this week, because there really isn't a intersting game this week.
ReplyDelete@JFein, I know. That's why Cal has to beat them this week because Stanfurd will most likely beat Notre Dame next week.
ReplyDeleteAlso Cal plays at U-Dubb next week.
Aspeaking of Cal, I must say that I need to be the first to congratulate Ron Franklin for winning the Week 9 Pammy for his Jahvid Best remark!
ReplyDelete/Had the pleasure of doing him'd.
I'm just pretending that Ron Franklin never said that.
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Texas Tech!
ReplyDeleteRed Raiders lead it 17-6.
BC is on the comeback trail against UNC. Once down 21-0, it is now 21-13 with BC getting the ball after commercial.
ReplyDeleteThe Notre Dame game sure does start early. Must want the early start for that not as many people can watch them.
ReplyDeleteThe sad part is I'm probably going to watch a good part of that Notre Dame game.
ReplyDeleteI want to see UConn finally win a game.
@JFein, I will probably watch a good majority of the Notre Dame game as well.
ReplyDeleteBrandon Graham is dominating the line of scrimmage for Michigan at the goal line. Michigan still has a chance to win this game.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I say that, Ohio State scores on a screen pass.
ReplyDeleteOntheDLpodcast Sean McDonough getting vocally choked up when talking about the Spielman family. Nice moment from ABC & well done by him.
ReplyDeleteI hope there's a video of that.
@Jfein, look for that video and I will post it.
ReplyDeleteIt still amazes me how tall Tom Hammond is.
ReplyDeleteTexas Tech is hammering Oklahoma now.
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Notre Dame. Is there anything good on today? Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap. The Twerps are winning a game. Where's kt when you need him?
ReplyDelete@JFein, you haven't missed much the past four weeks. This college football season has been a complete dud.
ReplyDeleteTate Forcier throws another interception. I guess he's not the next Tebow?
ReplyDeleteAt this point, really, the only thing semi-interesting is the de facto Big 12 North championship game between Kansas State and Nebraska and even that is a game to determine who will get the honor of being crushed by Texas.
ReplyDeleteOregon-Arizona could be interesting as well, but for some reason, I see Oregon blowing them out.
and just as i sho up...FSU returns a punt from their 10 to MD 45...
ReplyDeletenow the QB scrambles inside the 30
now Manuel has scrambled inside the 10...still 1:19 secs to go
ReplyDeleteTD FSU :32 to play....
ReplyDeletethats what i get for showing up
@JFein, the Furd-Cal game should also be good. For all the crazy hype Furd has received this week, they still have the same record as Cal.
ReplyDelete@ kt: Don't be so hard on youself. It's the Twerps. That was bound to happen regardless.
ReplyDeleteDon't look now but TCU is barely beating Wyoming in the 2nd quarter.
ReplyDeleteYes! Temple is beating Kent St. 19-10 in the 3rd quarter. GOOOOOOO OWLS!!!!!!
ReplyDeletetalk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...
ReplyDeleteand MD almost pulled off the Millsaps multiple laterals to score on the last play.
OMFG FLORIDA IS BEATING FIU!!!!! TEBOW'S SO GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete/ESPN'd
I guess I'll watch the Penn State game, seeing as there really is not anything else of much interest on now.
ReplyDeleteHere ya go. Penn State can still get a BCS Bowl birth with a win today against Sparty, thus snubbing Iowa and providing some revenge for last year.
Touchdown UConn. 14-7 Notre Dame
ReplyDeleteAlso JFein, the LSU-Ole Miss game is on CBS. That should be an interesting game.
This should make you happy JFein. Oklahoma is losing to Texas Tech 34-6.
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: LOL OKLAHOMA!!! They deserve it.
ReplyDeleteI think I might want to kill D-Clark. He completely ruins a great Penn State defense.
Bring back Michael Robinson! He's not doing anything for the Niners except returning kicks.
ReplyDeleteHoly Shit! Mike Patrick is calling the Penn State-Sparty game. I wanted to watch this game but.............
ReplyDelete@JFein, wait till next week for the Tebow love. Next week will be his last home game. I'm sure ESPN will be fawning all week about that.
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: You missed that on the schedule? I'm watching the game.....in spite of Mike Patrick.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand Patrick. His voice makes my skin crawl.
ReplyDeleteOle Miss is about to score on LSU.
ReplyDeleteHOLY SHIT WHAT A CATCH! Ole Miss scored a touchdown on an amazing catch.
ReplyDeleteThat's YouTube worthy all the way.
Never mind. He ran out of bounds before making that catch. No touchdown. Still an amazing catch.
ReplyDeleteUnreal! LSU blocks Ole Miss' field goal attempt and runs it back for a touchdown. Unreal sequence of plays.
ReplyDeleteCrazy things happening between Ole Miss and LSU.
ReplyDelete14-10 Notre Dame at halftime
ReplyDeleteTouchdown LSU!
ReplyDelete14-6 LSU
NBC just ran a really nice piece on UConn and Jasper Howard.
ReplyDeleteI saw that to, JFein.
ReplyDelete"All three Michigan State linebackers are at the line. 2 of them come." - Mike Patrick
ReplyDeleteTOUCHDOWN PENN STATE!!!!
ReplyDeleteToday is Kris' birthday.
ReplyDeleteSparty's tied it at 7.
ReplyDeleteHappy bday kt!
ReplyDeleteToo bad he had to watch his Twerps choke, but alas, I'm sure he expects nothing different from said Twerps.
@JFein, no doubt.
ReplyDeleteOle Miss is about to score before haltime. This game is lasting forever.
Touchdown Ole Miss!
ReplyDeleteThey tried for the 2-point conversion for some reason and it failed. That was stupid Houston Nutt.
17-15 LSU with 4:40 before half
7-7 Sparty and PSU at halftime.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna grab some dinner. Be right back.
ReplyDeleteI must be the only person watching the Causeway Classic between Sacramento State and UC Davis.
ReplyDeleteNotre Dame-UConn tied at 17 in the 4th quarter.
ReplyDeleteNotre Dame kicks a FG and now leads 20-17 with 10 minutes left to play.
ReplyDeleteWhere's Mookie? The Jags realeased Brian Rusell today.
ReplyDeleteI know you guys aren't probably watching, but UConn is driving down on Notre Dame for the game-winning touchdown.
ReplyDeleteTOUCHDOWN UCONN!! NO!!! A REALLY BAD HOLDING PENALTY!!!!
ReplyDeleteANOTHER UCON TOUCHDOWN!!!!! ANOTHER FLAG!!!!! ANOTHER HOLD ON UCONN!!!!! UNBELIEVEABLE!!!
ReplyDeleteAnother hold by UConn negates another touchdown.
ReplyDeleteUConn is still going to score. They are running up and down on Notre Dame.
@ 49er16: You are.
ReplyDeleteis it wrong i'm watching Seinfeld than any of these football games?
ReplyDelete@JFein thank you
According to Tom Hammond, Notre Dame now has a sister school, Notre Dime...
ReplyDelete@ kt: I'm surprised you're not watching the Notre Dame game. ;-)
ReplyDeleteUConn has to kick a FG to tie the game.
ReplyDeleteMookie knows that Brian Russell has been cut...
ReplyDeleteTied Game with 1:10 left.
ReplyDeletePlenty of time left for Notre Dame to get into FG range.
ReplyDeleteUConn has tied the game at 20 with 1:10 left.
ReplyDeleteBrian Russell's grit has been released.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.jaguars.com/news/article.aspx?id=8456
Minnesota must sign him so Forsett can blast him again.
"Things that are Notre Dame legends."-Hammond
ReplyDeleteWhat? Prevent you team from going 6-5? Joe Montana scoffs at this notion.
i just turned ND on....
ReplyDeletewhy am I not surprised UConn lost 2 TD's because of penalties?
/definite ND bias from the stripes
FUMBLE AND UCONN RECOVERS!
ReplyDeleteALLEN HAS FUMBLED IT AND UCONN RECOVERS AT THE ND 40!!!! INCREDIBLE!!!
ReplyDeleteHolding on Notre Dame and UConn can win this game in regulation.
ReplyDeleteSCREEN PASS IS FUMBLED BY NOTRE DAME AND RECOVERED BY UCONN WITH 49 SECONDS LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAND DIXON TO THE ND 23!!!
ReplyDeleteDIXON TO THE 25!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteUConn is already in FG range.
ReplyDeleteUConn is going to attempt a game-winning FG.
ReplyDeleteTimeout with 3 seconds left.
ReplyDeleteNO GOOD!
ReplyDeleteNo Good! We're going to OT.
ReplyDeleteOh my God.
ReplyDeleteThe Luck of the Irish has struck!
ReplyDeletedelicious irony in running that Weis clip...
ReplyDeletehe Hauschka'd it...
I love how NBC already did the Weis retrospective.
ReplyDeleteNotre Dame will win. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I would feel this bad for UConn in my life.
TOUCHDOWN PENN STATE!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletePAT pending, they will be up 28-7 and will be that much closer to going back to the BCS for the 2nd straight year.
Even with identical records, is there any question that Penn State will overtake Iowa?
Penn State won't overtake Iowa.
ReplyDeleteWhat a run by Dixon is pick up the first down.
ReplyDeleteAndre Dixon is a beast.
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: We all know the BCS, who would they rather see, big money Penn State, or little Iowa?
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying it's right (although the fan in me will take joy in the revenge), I'm just saying that's the way the fucked up system is.
TOUCHDOWN UCONN!
ReplyDeleteTOUCHDOWN UCONN!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTOUCHDOWN UCONN
ReplyDeleteActually your wrong about Iowa. Their fans travel much better than Penn State fans.
ReplyDeletewhat a ridiculous catch!
ReplyDeleteHorrible miscommunication between Clausen and Tate.
ReplyDelete1st and goal for Notre Dame
ReplyDeleteClausen made a hell of play to get that away.
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Notre Dame
ReplyDeleteNotre Dame to the 4.
ReplyDeleteEven though I would greatly enjoy the schadenfreude of overtaking Iowa and getting in the BCS, D-Clark will ensure that game is a blowout with Penn State on the wrong side of it. I'd rather play a slightly weaker team so there is more of a chance of victory.
Meanwhile Notre Dame gets a touchdown.
Is Weis dumb enough to go for 2?
ReplyDeleteWe go to double overtime.
ReplyDeleteTo another OT.
ReplyDeleteBrian Griese sounds a lot like Bob Griese....
ReplyDelete4th down for Notre Dame. FG time.
ReplyDeleteIt's good and Notre Dame takes a 3 point lead.
ReplyDelete30-27 Notre Dame.
ReplyDeleteJust keep running Dixon down their throats.
ReplyDeleteDIXON TO THE 4!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteUConn is running it right down Notre Dame's throat.
ReplyDeleteDIXON SCORES AND UCONN WINS!
ReplyDeleteDIXON TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTOUCHDOWN DIXON AND UCONN WINS!
ReplyDeleteUConn wins!!
ReplyDeleteBye-Bye Charlie....have fun being Browns OC next year...
Does Belichick still need a offensive coordinator to replace McDaniels?
ReplyDeletehave fun guys...i'm now outta here
ReplyDeleteThat game was for Jasper Howard.
ReplyDeleteDon't get too fucked up. We need you for tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteCharlie, shut up about Notre Dame. Look, I know you feel bad for your program, but shouldn't you at least mention UConn???
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: Relax, I get 3 early games tomorrow, including the Ravens!
ReplyDeleteAnd the sad part is, not one of them sticks out above the rest.
Pitt-KC
Bal-Indy
Atl-Dal
Holy crap Tom Hammond is tall!!!!
ReplyDeleteI told you Hammond is tall.
ReplyDeleteI also get three games tomorrow in the mourning to. But I will be watching the Green Bay-San Francisco game.
Ole Miss has taken the lead from LSU.
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: You have multiple affiliates of one channel as well? Nice. On days like this, it almsot makes up for being taken away from my Sunday Ticket back at home. Almost.
ReplyDeleteYeah I have two CBS channels. One out of Sacramento and one out of Chico.
ReplyDeleteThe world is right.
ReplyDeleteGood job UConn.
What's Lady Gaga doing with her life?
ReplyDelete/Mike Patrick'd
Lou Holtz is predicting a rise to prominence once again for Notre Dame. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteTOUCHDOWN LSU!!!!!!! THEY NEED 2 TO TIE!!!
ReplyDeleteNO GOOD BUT A FLAG WILL CAUSE A RE-DO!!!
ReplyDeleteOUT OF BOUNDS!!! NO FLAG!!!! 1:17 LEFT!
ReplyDeleteONSIDE KICK RECOVERED BY LSU!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow could Dexter McCluster just let that one go like that? LSU has 1:16, 2 timeouts, and the ball at their own 42.
ReplyDeleteLAFELL TO THE 31!!!!
ReplyDeleteJEFFERSON SACKED BACK AT THE 41!!!!!!! TIMEOUT LSU!!!! 32 TO GO!
ReplyDeleteSCREEN PASS LOSES 7 YARDS!!!!! LOSES!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete4th and 26 for LSU with 9 seconds left.
ReplyDeleteTOLLIVER MAKES THE CATCH WITH 1 SECOND LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1ST DOWN!!!!!!!! THEY DON'T HAVE THE FIELD GOAL TEAM ON!!!!!! THEY ARE TRYING TO GROUND THE BALL INSTEAD!!!!!!!! THE REFS START THE CLOCK AND THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OLE MISS WINS IT ON AN INCREDIBLY SHOCKING FINISH!!!!!!!!! SIMPLY ASTONISHING!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat clock management just put Andy Reid and Bill Belichick to shame.
ReplyDelete@ Keith: Here's the video of the UConn finish.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMsIIW3OhEQ
I'll have the LSU vid up as soon as it's up. That was quite idiotic to say the least.
@JFein, I go to grab dinner and there is an incridible finish in the LSU-Ole Miss game.
ReplyDeleteIf you have not already seen it, the only thing funnier than the idiocy of the play itself was Grandpa Verne's reaction and call to it.
ReplyDelete@ Keith: Les Miles should be awarded an honorary Pammy for that disaster of a finish.
ReplyDeleteI have to watch this YouTube video of the Ole Miss-LSU final. Twitter blew up because of it.
ReplyDelete@ Keith: That video does not even show half of what happened at the end of that play.
ReplyDeleteI found a better one.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow! That's one crazy shirt and tie for Brent!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to watch the Nebraska-Kansas St. game. This game determines who will be beat by Texas in the Big XII Championship.
ReplyDelete@JFein, good I thought I was seeing things. Also are you watching this game on ABC or ESPN360?
ReplyDelete@ Keith: That's a little better, but you have got to see it live with Verne. That will crack you up.
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: Oregon-Arizona is my ABC game.
ReplyDeleteI've given up trying to figure out how to fix my 360.
Believe it or not, the PAC-10 game is the national game. Basically the entire east coast/west coast and mountain time zone gets Oregon-Zona while the Great Plains gets a Texas blowout.
ReplyDeleteI didn't ever think an all Pac-10 matchup would get national love.
ReplyDeleteWhat a crock. Penn State will most likely go to the Fiesta Bowl. Thanks Joe Pa for taking a spot away from Boise State.
ReplyDeleteHey Keith, how about Cal?
ReplyDeleteUgh.....I'd rather not talk about that game, Jay.
ReplyDeleteIt's getting chippy between Nebraska and Kansas State.
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: They are taking the spot away from Iowa. If PSU gets in, Iowa is not. Only 2 teams from a conference can be in the BCS.
ReplyDeleteWas there ever a question that 2 Big 10 teams would get in the BCS?
Well, for all the crappiness surrounding this college football season, it still has an interesting finish with who will get the BCS bowls. Tons of teams with legit arguments to get in.
ReplyDeleteThey are also taking a spot away from Boise State.
ReplyDeleteBCS National Championship: Florida/Alabama vs. Texas
Rose Bowl: Ohio State vs. Arizona/Oregon
Fiesta Bowl: Penn State vs. TCU
Sugar Bowl: Alabama/Florida vs. Oklahoma State
Orange Bowl: Cincinnati vs. Georgia Tech
Trust me. Penn State takes a spot away from Boise State because bowl execs don't want two Non-BCS teams in their BCS Bowls.
And also, you have to believe that the BCS is cumming over the potential of a Penn State Pitt Orange Bowl.
ReplyDeleteThey wouldn't go to the Orange Bowl. The ACC vs. Big East is the new Orange Bowl.
ReplyDeleteOregon State and Stanford are both still in the battle for the Rose Bowl. All Oregon State needs to do is win out and hope Arizona loses 1 game.
ReplyDeleteIn an irony of ironies, Oklahoma if can beat Okie St., it will help both Penn State and Boise St. It will certainly all but cement Penn State in the BCS and it won't be taking that spot away from Boise.
I read that somewhere. I've read a lot of over-looking of the Big East in the early Orange Bowl predictions.
ReplyDeleteBesides, does anybody actually want to see Cincinnati (or Pitt for that matter if they can steal the conference) play Georgia Tech? Anybody? Anywhere?
Or worse, play Clemson?
ReplyDeleteCincinnati will blow out whoever they play in the Orange Bowl. There going undefeated this year.
ReplyDeleteHere's a thought: If Texas loses, is Cincinnati in the National championship game?
ReplyDelete@JFein, most likely. But I could see the BCS fools giving that spot to a one-loss Texas team over Cincy.
ReplyDeleteUFC 106 prelims coming up!
ReplyDeleteGrove/Rosholt coming up next.
ReplyDelete
